Dehradun:

To commemorate the completion of one year since the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Uttarakhand, the state will observe “Uniform Civil Code Day” on January 27, 2026. On this occasion, a grand state-level programme will be organised at the Auditorium of the Department of Culture, Neembuwala, Dehradun, with Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami participating as the chief guest.

In preparation for the event, a virtual review meeting was held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Chief Development Officer Abhinav Shah, with nodal officers from various departments. The CDO directed all concerned officials to ensure that every arrangement related to the programme is completed in a timely, well-coordinated, and dignified manner.

During the programme, officers, employees, and distinguished citizens who have made outstanding contributions at the state level will be felicitated for their exemplary service, dedication, and excellence. To make the event more engaging and participative, an on-the-spot quiz competition will also be organised.

The Joint Director, Higher Education has been instructed to ensure the participation of law students from universities across the state. The Education Department has been directed to organise essay writing, debate, and painting competitions in schools in connection with UCC Day and to make proper arrangements for transporting the winning students to and from the programme venue.

In addition, office bearers of the Bar Council and local Bar Associations will be invited to the programme to further strengthen legal discourse and awareness related to the Uniform Civil Code.

The Public Works Department has been directed to ensure appropriate arrangements for the stage, auditorium, sound system, LED screens, and tentage. The Superintendent of Police has been instructed to make robust arrangements for security, traffic management, and vehicle parking. The Project Director has been tasked with ensuring the timely distribution of invitation letters to all invited dignitaries.

Clear instructions have also been issued to the concerned nodal officers to ensure all essential facilities, including refreshments, drinking water, electricity supply, transportation, and health services, for the smooth and successful conduct of the programme.

The state-level celebration of Uniform Civil Code Day will serve as an important step towards spreading awareness about Uttarakhand’s historic initiative, reinforcing constitutional values, and strengthening the message of social equality, justice, and harmony among the people.
