Historic First High-Altitude Ultra-Run Marathon Held at Adi Kailash — Over 700 Runners from 22 States, Marking a New Era of Adventure Tourism in Uttarakhand

In a landmark moment for Uttarakhand, the state’s first high-altitude Ultra-Run Marathon was successfully organized on Sunday amidst the sacred Himalayas of Adi Kailash, the mythical abode of Lord Shiva. The event, held during the Silver Jubilee Year of Uttarakhand’s foundation, is being hailed as a historic milestone that showcases the state’s immense potential in adventure sports and mountain tourism.
The 60-kilometer Ultra Run witnessed the participation of over 700 runners from 22 states across India, each displaying extraordinary endurance, determination, and fitness while navigating the tough Himalayan terrain, icy winds, and high-altitude challenges.
The event received exceptional support from ITBP and the Indian Army, ensuring smooth coordination and safety throughout the route. Participants lauded the state government and district administration for world-class arrangements and hospitality, calling the experience “beyond expectations.”
Thousands of local residents lined the route, cheering on the runners and transforming the serene Himalayan valleys into a festival of energy and enthusiasm.
According to participants and local representatives, ever since Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Adi Kailash, tourism and adventure activities in this sacred border region have grown exponentially. The Prime Minister’s vision of promoting Himalayan and winter tourism, coupled with the continuous efforts of the Dhami government, is giving new direction to adventure sports, pilgrimage tourism, and the rural economy of Uttarakhand’s frontier districts.
Senior tourism officials, ITBP personnel, district authorities, police, and local representatives attended the event, marking it as a historic achievement in Uttarakhand’s 25-year journey.
CM Pushkar Singh Dhami’s Statement
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami congratulated all participants, organizers, and citizens on the successful completion of the Ultra-Run, saying —
“This is a proud moment for Uttarakhand. Organizing such a challenging high-altitude Ultra-Marathon in the divine land of Adi Kailash is a symbol of courage, devotion, and determination. It reflects the limitless possibilities of our state in adventure sports and tourism. On the 25th anniversary of our foundation, this event symbolizes Uttarakhand’s bright future and growing global identity.”
He added —
“Following Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Adi Kailash, this entire region has witnessed unprecedented growth in tourism and spiritual activities. The state government, under his guidance, is continuously working to promote Himalayan and winter tourism.”
The Chief Minister emphasized —
“The development of border regions is our top priority. Events like this Ultra-Marathon not only boost the local economy but also inspire the youth toward adventure and endurance sports. Uttarakhand will soon emerge as a global center for mountain tourism and adventure sports.”
This historic initiative has placed Adi Kailash firmly on India’s adventure-tourism map and marked Uttarakhand as the “Adventure Destination of India.”
