Uttarakhand Halts Increase in Vehicle Fitness Fee for One Year

CM Pushkar Singh Dhami Announces Major Relief for Vehicle Owners

DEHRADUN: The Uttarakhand government has provided significant relief to vehicle owners by putting on hold the newly revised fitness fee rates for 15-year-old commercial vehicles. The increased fee structure will not be implemented until 21 November 2026, and the previously prescribed fee will continue to remain in force during this period. The Transport Department has issued an official notification on 21 November regarding the decision, signed by Transport Secretary Brijesh Kumar Sant.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the Central Government had recently increased the fitness fee for commercial vehicles older than 15 years by up to ten times. Considering the economic impact on the people of the state and keeping public sentiment in mind, the state government has decided not to impose this financial burden immediately on Uttarakhand’s vehicle owners.

The Chief Minister stated that the Uttarakhand government is committed to protecting public interest and ensuring that citizens are not subjected to unnecessary financial pressure.
“Our government is determined to provide relief to the people and take swift, citizen-centric decisions. Considering the recent hike announced by the Central Government, we have decided to defer the new fitness fee rates for one year. During this time, the old fee structure will continue. We do not want vehicle owners and those associated with the transport sector to face sudden additional financial stress,” he said.

He added that the new fee rates will be implemented in the future as per the next revision to be carried out by the Government of India.

Reiterating the government’s commitment to public welfare, the Chief Minister said,
“We are sensitive to the needs of the people. Safeguarding the interests of the poor, middle class, taxi operators, and thousands of people associated with the transport business is our top priority. There will be no delay in decisions that directly benefit the public.”

The decision is expected to offer considerable relief to commercial vehicle owners, transport operators, and drivers across Uttarakhand.
