Dehradun Administration on High Alert Amid Heavy to Very Heavy Rain Warning; Trekking Suspended in Hilly Areas

Dehradun, August 5, 2026: Following the latest weather forecast issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Dehradun, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places in Dehradun district on August 5 and 6, the district administration has gone on high alert. Acting on the directions of District Magistrate Dr. Ashish Chauhan, all departments have been instructed to remain fully prepared and activate disaster management mechanisms to deal with any emergency.

The IMD has issued an Orange Alert for the district, prompting authorities to intensify preparedness measures across vulnerable areas.

The District Magistrate has ordered a complete suspension of trekking activities in hilly regions during the alert period. Additionally, tourists will not be allowed to visit higher Himalayan areas to minimize the risk of accidents caused by adverse weather conditions.

All departmental officers, disaster management officials, nodal officers, and emergency response teams have been directed to remain on high alert. In the event of any disaster or accident, immediate response and seamless coordination among departments have been made mandatory.

The Public Works Department (PWD), National Highways, PMGSY, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), and other road agencies have been instructed to clear blocked roads on priority to ensure uninterrupted movement of emergency and rescue services.

Urban local bodies have been directed to remove obstructions from drains and culverts to prevent waterlogging and maintain smooth drainage systems.

Revenue Sub-Inspectors, Village Development Officers, and Gram Panchayat Officers have been asked to remain stationed in their respective areas and closely monitor vulnerable locations. All police stations and outposts have also been placed on high alert with disaster response equipment and wireless communication systems.

Officials and field staff have been instructed to keep their mobile phones operational at all times and carry raincoats, helmets, flashlights, first-aid kits, and other essential emergency equipment in their vehicles.

The District Magistrate further directed that if people become stranded due to heavy rain, landslides, or road blockages, immediate arrangements should be made for food, drinking water, medical assistance, and other essential relief services.

Special emphasis has also been placed on the safety of school students, with educational institutions advised to remain vigilant and monitor weather conditions closely.

The district administration has appealed to residents and visitors to follow official weather advisories, avoid unnecessary travel, stay away from rivers and landslide-prone areas, and immediately report any emergency to the District Disaster Control Room.
