Heavy Rain Orange Alert: All Schools up to Class 12 and Anganwadi Centres to Remain Closed in Dehradun on August 5
Dehradun, August 4, 2026: The Dehradun district administration has declared a one-day holiday on August 5, 2026 (Wednesday) for all government, aided, private schools from Class 1 to Class 12, as well as all Anganwadi Centres, following an Orange Alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
According to an order issued by District Magistrate and Chairman, District Disaster Management Authority, Dr. Ashish Chauhan, the latest weather forecast and nowcast indicate the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, and intense to extremely intense spells of rain across parts of Dehradun district during the next 24 hours.
Considering the potential risks of waterlogging, landslides, flash floods, road blockages, and other rain-related incidents, the district administration has taken the precautionary decision to suspend academic activities for one day to ensure the safety of students, teachers, and staff.
The Chief Education Officer, Dehradun, and the District Programme Officer (ICDS) have been directed to ensure strict compliance with the order across all educational institutions and Anganwadi centres in the district.
The administration has also urged residents to remain vigilant, avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall, stay away from rivers, streams, and landslide-prone areas, and follow all advisories issued by the IMD and the district disaster management authorities.
The closure has been announced purely as a preventive measure to safeguard children and educational staff amid the prevailing adverse weather conditions.
