Dehradun Schools and Anganwadi Centres to Remain Closed on August 6 Due to Orange Alert for Heavy Rainfall
Dehradun, August 5, 2026: In view of the latest weather forecast issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Dehradun, and the National Disaster Alert Portal (NDMA), the Dehradun district administration has declared a one-day holiday on August 6, 2026, for all schools and Anganwadi centres across the district.
According to the order issued by District Magistrate Dr. Ashish Chauhan, an Orange Alert has been issued for Dehradun for the next 24 hours, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms with lightning, and intense to extremely intense spells of rain at isolated places. The decision has been taken as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students and children.
The holiday applies to all government, government-aided, private schools from Classes 1 to 12, as well as all Anganwadi centres operating in Dehradun district.
The District Magistrate has directed the Chief Education Officer and the District Programme Officer (Women & Child Development) to ensure strict compliance with the order and communicate it to all educational institutions and Anganwadi centres without delay.
The district administration has also appealed to residents to avoid unnecessary travel during adverse weather conditions, stay away from rivers, streams, and landslide-prone areas, and follow advisories issued by the IMD and disaster management authorities. All concerned departments have been instructed to remain on high alert and maintain preparedness for any emergency arising due to heavy rainfall.
