Temporary Motor Road Restored at Tamak Nala, Vehicular Movement Resumes in Record Time
Hume Pipes Used to Create Temporary Route Following Bailey Bridge Collapse; Rescue Operation for Missing Person Continues for Second Day
Chamoli: Vehicular movement in the Niti Valley region of Chamoli district has been restored in record time after heavy rainfall caused the Tamak Nala to swell and washed away a bailey bridge, disrupting connectivity in the area.
Acting on the directions of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the district administration and concerned departments worked on a war footing to restore connectivity. Hume pipes were laid across the Tamak Nala and a temporary motor road was constructed, following which vehicular movement on the route resumed.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami congratulated the district administration and teams of the concerned departments for restoring traffic connectivity within a short period. He had directed officials to ensure that an alternative route or temporary bridge was constructed at the earliest to restore movement and provide relief to residents and essential services in the affected area.
CM Dhami Closely Monitored Restoration Efforts
Following the collapse of the bailey bridge due to the swollen Tamak Nala, the Chief Minister continuously monitored the situation in the Niti Valley. He regularly sought updates from Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan, Secretary Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Vinod Kumar Suman, Garhwal Commissioner Anand Swarup and the Chamoli District Magistrate regarding relief and rescue operations as well as progress on restoration of the road.
The Chief Minister had issued clear instructions to restore connectivity at the earliest. In response, district administration officials and teams from the concerned departments immediately reached the affected location and launched restoration work on a war footing.
Temporary Route Constructed Using Hume Pipes
Considering the urgency of the situation, the teams worked continuously to establish an alternative route. Hume pipes were installed at the Tamak Nala and a temporary motor road was constructed.
With the completion of the temporary route, vehicular movement has now resumed in the area. The administration is keeping a close watch on the condition of the route, the weather and the water level of the Tamak Nala to ensure safe movement.
Search for Missing Person Continues for Second Day
Meanwhile, a joint search and rescue operation continued for the second consecutive day for a person who went missing following the incident in which the bailey bridge was washed away.
Teams from the district administration, police, Indian Army, Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and Border Roads Organisation (BRO) are jointly conducting the search operation.
Search teams are carrying out an intensive operation along the riverbanks and at other possible locations around the affected area. The rescue teams are using available resources and technical expertise to locate the missing person.
Administration Monitoring Weather and Water Level
The district administration is continuously monitoring the situation at the affected site. Given the prevailing weather conditions and the water level of the Tamak Nala, special attention is being paid to safety standards during both the restoration and rescue operations.
Officials have been deployed at the site and are issuing necessary directions to the teams involved in the operations. The administration is prioritising both the safety of commuters using the temporary route and the continuation of the search operation.
Public Urged to Follow Safety Guidelines
The district administration has appealed to local residents and vehicle operators to exercise extreme caution while using the temporary motor road. People have been advised to avoid unnecessary risks and strictly follow the safety instructions issued by officials and personnel deployed at the site.
The administration said all concerned departments are working in close coordination to maintain connectivity and ensure the safety of people in the affected area. Necessary measures are being taken continuously based on weather conditions and the water level of the Tamak Nala.
