Dehradun Administration Intensifies Crackdown on Single-Use Plastic, 19 Kg Seized; ₹9,500 Fine Collected
38 establishments inspected in Turner Road Ward-78; six found violating plastic restrictions and fined
Dehradun: The Dehradun district administration has intensified its crackdown on single-use plastic as part of its ongoing efforts to protect the environment and make the city free from banned plastic materials.
Following strict directions from District Magistrate Dr. Ashish Chauhan, designated sector officers are conducting regular inspections, enforcement drives and public awareness campaigns across different wards of Dehradun.
As part of the campaign, a comprehensive inspection drive was conducted on Thursday in Ward-78, Turner Road, covering Munni Chowk and the ISBT Bus Stand Market. The inspection team, led by District Information Officer Priyanka Joshi and Municipal Corporation Sanitary Inspector Rajiv Kumar Saini, conducted surprise checks at 38 establishments.
19 Kg of Banned Plastic Seized
During the inspection, six establishments were found using or possessing around 19 kg of single-use plastic materials. The authorities seized the banned plastic items and recovered a total fine of ₹9,500 from the establishments.
The operators were strictly instructed not to use banned plastic materials in the future. They were also warned that repeated violations would invite further action under the applicable rules.
Meat Vendor Found Operating with Expired Licence
During the drive, a meat vendor was also found selling meat with an expired licence. The team instructed the vendor to obtain a valid licence from the Municipal Corporation and comply with the prescribed regulations.
Awareness Campaign Conducted Alongside Enforcement
The administration combined enforcement with public awareness during the inspection drive. Officials interacted with shopkeepers and members of the public and highlighted the harmful impact of single-use plastic on the environment, drainage systems and public health.
People were encouraged to replace plastic bags with cloth or jute bags and adopt more environmentally responsible practices.
Municipal Corporation Ward-78 Supervisor Ashok Kumar was also present during the inspection.
50 Sector Officers Monitoring Different Wards
Under the directions of the District Magistrate, 50 designated sector officers are conducting regular monitoring and enforcement drives across different wards of the Dehradun Municipal Corporation area.
The district administration has made it clear that the campaign against single-use plastic will continue until the city moves towards becoming free from banned plastic materials. Establishments found violating the restrictions will face action as per the applicable rules.
