Dehradun Gets New Green Destination: CM Dhami Opens Jal Srishti Park in Miyanwala

CM Dhami Inaugurates ₹8.64 Crore ‘Jal Srishti Park’ in Miyanwala, Gives New Life to Old Pond

Park blends natural beauty with modern amenities; pedal boating and island emerge as major attractions

Dehradun: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Friday inaugurated the ‘Jal Srishti Park’ in Miyanwala, Dehradun, developed by the Mussoorie-Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) at an estimated cost of ₹8.64 crore under a Chief Minister’s announcement.

Developed by rejuvenating an existing old pond, the park combines water conservation, green spaces, recreational facilities and modern urban amenities. CM Dhami described the project as an important step towards the vision of a clean, healthy and green Dehradun.

Old Pond Rejuvenated as Part of Park Development

Congratulating local residents on the new facility, CM Dhami appreciated the decision to rejuvenate the existing pond instead of eliminating the traditional water body during the development of the park.

He said the conservation of old ponds and water sources is not only an environmental initiative but also an effort to preserve natural heritage and secure water resources for future generations.

An attractive island has been developed in the middle of the pond, while pedal boating has also been introduced for visitors. CM Dhami said the park would provide residents of the Raipur area with a beautiful natural destination within Dehradun and an experience offering a “Nainital-like feeling.”

Water and Forests Are Part of India’s Cultural Heritage

The Chief Minister said water bodies and forests have traditionally been regarded as an integral part of life and culture in India. Therefore, protecting water sources is not merely about environmental conservation but also about safeguarding the region’s heritage and the interests of future generations.

He said the state government is committed to maintaining a balance between development and environmental conservation. Development, he added, should not be limited to concrete structures but should improve people’s quality of life, make cities more attractive and ensure environmental sustainability.

Road, Drinking Water, Health and Flood Protection Works Progressing in Raipur

CM Dhami said development works in Uttarakhand are being accelerated through coordination between the Central and state governments under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He said several projects related to education, healthcare, roads, drinking water, parks, sewerage and flood protection are being taken forward in the Raipur area.

Road resurfacing, renovation and widening works are being undertaken along with efforts to improve sewerage infrastructure. New tubewells and overhead water tanks have been developed to strengthen drinking water supply, while replacement of old pipelines and laying of new water lines are also underway.

Green Spaces Being Developed Across Residential Areas

The Chief Minister said parks are being developed and beautified in areas including Defence Colony, Sinyawala and Nehru Colony to provide residents with accessible green spaces where they can spend time in a healthy environment.

He also said efforts are underway to improve the road connectivity from IT Park through Polytechnic towards Mangluwala, which is expected to improve connectivity and ease traffic movement in the area.

Saung Dam to Strengthen Dehradun’s Future Water Supply

CM Dhami said Dehradun is expanding rapidly and the demand for drinking water is increasing along with its growing population. Work on the Saung Dam project is also being taken forward, which is expected to help strengthen the city’s drinking water infrastructure in the future.

He said flood protection and channelisation works are also being undertaken on rivers and seasonal streams in the Raipur area to reduce the impact of flooding and waterlogging during the monsoon.

Jogging Track, Yoga Deck and Children’s Park Among Facilities

The ₹8.64-crore Jal Srishti Park has been developed as a multi-purpose green and recreational space. Facilities include a jogging track, yoga deck, children’s park, educational flower garden, landscaped areas, green spaces and seating facilities.

The educational flower garden is intended to provide visitors, particularly children, with opportunities to learn about different flowers and plants. The island in the pond and pedal boating facilities are among the park’s key attractions.

The project brings together water-source rejuvenation, environmental conservation, recreation, health and natural beauty within a single urban green space.

CM Appeals to Citizens to Keep Park Clean and Beautiful

CM Dhami appealed to residents to take collective responsibility for maintaining the park. He said the government can develop a park and provide facilities, but keeping it clean, beautiful and well-maintained over the long term requires public participation.

He urged residents to treat the facility as their own park rather than merely government property. He also encouraged children and young people to make greater use of the facility for sports, running, yoga and spending time in nature while also taking responsibility for maintaining the cleanliness of the park and pond.

Focus on Modern Amenities While Preserving Dehradun’s Natural Identity

The Chief Minister said Dehradun is known across the country for its greenery and natural beauty. He emphasised that this identity must be preserved while the city continues to develop.

The state government, he said, is working to expand modern urban facilities while ensuring the protection of natural resources, green spaces and the environment.

He reiterated the government’s “Vikalp Rahit Sankalp” to take Uttarakhand towards becoming one of the leading states in the country and called for continued public participation in the development of the Raipur area.

MLA Umesh Sharma Kau, Mayor Saurabh Thapliyal, MDDA Vice Chairman Banshidhar Tiwari, senior officials and a large number of local residents were present at the inauguration ceremony.
