Patanjali Ayurveda Gurukulam to Become a Strong Centre for Integrating Indian Knowledge Tradition with Modern Education: CM Dhami
Haridwar, September 23, 2026: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami participated in the inauguration ceremony of the first Patanjali Ayurveda Gurukulam at Patanjali Wellness Yoggram in Aurangabad village, Haridwar, on Wednesday. On the occasion, the Chief Minister congratulated and extended his best wishes to Yoga Guru Swami Ramdev, Acharya Balkrishna and the entire Patanjali family on the launch of the Gurukulam.
Chief Minister Dhami said that Haridwar is a major centre of faith, culture and Sanatan traditions, and the launch of Patanjali Ayurveda Gurukulam in Devbhoomi is an important initiative towards connecting India’s rich knowledge tradition with the modern era.
He said India’s Gurukul tradition has served as a foundation for knowledge, values, discipline and character building for thousands of years. Gurukul education traditionally focused not only on academic knowledge but also on developing life skills, a sense of social responsibility and a spirit of service among students.
Referring to the principle “Sa Vidya Ya Vimuktaye,” the Chief Minister said true education is one that liberates an individual from ignorance, fear and narrow-mindedness while enabling holistic personality development.
Dhami expressed confidence that Patanjali Ayurveda Gurukulam would become an effective medium for taking India’s traditional knowledge systems to the younger generation. He said the integration of modern science and technology with Yoga, Ayurveda, Indian culture and traditional values would help students remain connected to their roots while preparing them to face future challenges.
Values and discipline essential alongside modern education
The Chief Minister said the relevance of Gurukul education has increased in a rapidly changing world. Along with modern knowledge, education in values, discipline and a balanced lifestyle is essential for the holistic development of children.
He appreciated the contributions of Swami Ramdev and Acharya Balkrishna in the fields of Yoga, Ayurveda, education, research and public health. He said Swami Ramdev has played an important role in taking Yoga to the masses, while Acharya Balkrishna has made significant contributions to the study, research and promotion of Ayurveda.
National Education Policy 2020 emphasises Indian knowledge tradition
Chief Minister Dhami said that the National Education Policy 2020, implemented under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, places special emphasis on skill development, innovation, the Indian knowledge tradition and the holistic development of students. Uttarakhand is also continuously moving forward towards effective implementation of the National Education Policy.
He said modernity and tradition are not contradictory but complementary. According to him, young people who remain connected with their roots and heritage while embracing modern knowledge can face future challenges with greater confidence.
The Chief Minister said a Centre for Hindu Studies at Doon University has been established to promote the study and research of Indian knowledge traditions, philosophy and culture. The state government is working to ensure that young people understand their rich heritage and present it confidently before the world.
Focus on science, research and innovation
Dhami said Uttarakhand is also taking several steps to promote science, research and innovation. The country’s fifth Science City is being developed in Dehradun, while science and innovation centres and other resources for scientific activities are also being developed in different areas.
He said the state is working to create a conducive ecosystem for startups and innovation and is focusing on equipping young people with skills aligned with future requirements.
The Chief Minister said the state government is committed to providing transparent and fair opportunities to youth. He added that a stringent anti-cheating law has been implemented to ensure transparency in government recruitment and that around 35,000 young people have received employment opportunities in government services over the past nearly five years.
Uttarakhand being developed as a global hub for knowledge, Yoga and Ayurveda
The Chief Minister said the state government is working to develop Uttarakhand not only as a tourism destination but also as a major global centre for knowledge, Yoga, Ayurveda and spirituality. Institutions such as Patanjali Ayurveda Gurukulam would play an important role in this endeavour.
He expressed confidence that Patanjali Ayurveda Gurukulam would emerge as an important centre for the study of knowledge, science, Yoga and Ayurveda for students from Uttarakhand, across India and around the world.
He said students educated at the Gurukulam would contribute meaningfully to society and nation-building with knowledge, values and a spirit of service.
