High-Level Meeting on Law & Order at Secretariat; Chief Secretary Takes Strict View

Strong directions issued to curb road rage and hooliganism; enhanced patrolling ordered

Amid rising incidents of road rage and public disorder, Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan chaired a high-level meeting with senior officials from the Home and Police departments at the Secretariat on Tuesday. The meeting focused on strengthening law and order in Dehradun and nearby areas.

Expressing serious concern over the increasing cases of hooliganism, the Chief Secretary directed officials to ensure strict action against offenders and intensify surveillance in sensitive zones. He emphasized zero tolerance towards such incidents.

Increased Patrolling and Vigilance

The Chief Secretary instructed the police to enhance patrolling across Dehradun city and adjoining areas. The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) has been directed to ensure increased patrolling during peak hours.
In addition to day and night patrolling, officials have also been asked to strengthen morning patrols for better coverage.

Strict Enforcement on Weekends and Bar Timings

Highlighting concerns over weekend disturbances, the Chief Secretary stated that Dehradun must not become a hub for parties and unruly behavior.
He directed strict enforcement of bar and restaurant closing timings and ordered action against establishments violating rules or operating illegally.

Monitoring of Homestays and Tenant Verification

Officials have been asked to map and monitor homestays in and around the city to ensure they are not being misused.
A comprehensive tenant and PG verification drive has also been ordered to identify and prevent suspicious activities.

Preparedness for Delhi–Dehradun Highway Impact

With the Delhi–Dehradun highway now open, the Chief Secretary warned of increased inflow of visitors, especially during weekends. He stressed the need for proactive planning and readiness to manage the potential law and order challenges.

Action Against Negligent Officials

The Chief Secretary made it clear that any negligence in duty will not be tolerated, and strict action will be taken against officials failing to perform their responsibilities.

The meeting was attended by DGP Deepam Seth, Home Secretary Shailesh Bagoli, Garhwal Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey, IG Garhwal Rajiv Swaroop, Dehradun District Magistrate Savin Bansal, SSP Dehradun Pramendra Singh Dobal, and other senior officials.
