Dehradun, October 5, 2026:
The weather in Uttarakhand is set to change once again, with the Meteorological Department issuing a yellow alert for the state from October 6 to 11. During this period, several mountainous areas of the Garhwal and Kumaon divisions are likely to experience light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds. Most plains districts, however, are expected to witness predominantly dry weather.

According to the weather department, snowfall activity is also likely to increase in higher reaches of the state. Weather Director Dr C.S. Tomar said that good snowfall is likely in areas located at an altitude of 4,200 metres and above between October 6 and 8. Subsequently, snowfall is also expected in areas around 3,800 metres between October 9 and 11.

Strong Winds and Lightning Alert in Several Districts

The weather department has issued a warning for strong winds, thunderstorms and lightning in several mountainous districts. Chamoli, Nainital, Pithoragarh, Bageshwar, Almora, Rudraprayag and Uttarkashi may witness strong winds with speeds of 30 to 40 kmph, accompanied by thunder and lightning.

Meanwhile, Nainital, Champawat, Almora, Dehradun, Tehri and Pauri are likely to receive moderate rainfall on October 6 and 7. Thunderstorms and lightning are also likely during the period.

Temperatures Likely to Dip in Higher Reaches

The change in weather and the possibility of snowfall at higher elevations are likely to bring a noticeable drop in temperatures in the mountainous areas. The impact is expected to be more pronounced in regions situated above 3,800 to 4,200 metres.

In view of the weather alert, residents and travellers in mountainous areas have been advised to remain cautious and keep track of the latest weather updates. People are also advised to avoid unnecessary movement in exposed or vulnerable areas during thunderstorms, strong winds and lightning.

The weather conditions are expected to remain active across several parts of Uttarakhand over the coming days. Travellers heading towards high-altitude areas, including pilgrimage and tourist destinations, should accordingly plan their journeys while keeping the latest weather advisories in mind.
