Dehradun Schools, Anganwadi Centres to Remain Closed on August 14 Amid Orange Alert

Dehradun, August 13, 2026: In view of continuous rainfall and the latest weather warning issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Dehradun, and the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), the Dehradun district administration has declared a one-day holiday for all educational institutions from Classes 1 to 12 and all Anganwadi centres on August 14, 2026.
District Magistrate and Chairperson of the District Disaster Management Authority, Dr. Ashish Chauhan, issued the order on Thursday, citing the updated weather forecast and nowcast released on August 13.
According to the district administration, the latest forecast indicates the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places, lightning and spells of extremely intense rainfall in parts of Dehradun district during the next 24 hours.
Considering the weather conditions and the possibility of adverse incidents, an Orange Alert has been issued for the district. The administration has taken the precautionary decision to keep educational institutions and Anganwadi centres closed to ensure the safety of students, children and staff.
Government and Private Schools to Remain Closed
As per the order, all government, government-aided, non-government and private schools conducting Classes 1 to 12 in Dehradun district will remain closed on August 14.
All Anganwadi centres across the district will also remain closed on the same day.
The administration said the decision has been taken as a preventive measure in view of the prevailing weather conditions and the potential risks associated with intense rainfall and lightning.
Officials Directed to Ensure Compliance
The District Magistrate has directed the Chief Education Officer, Dehradun, and the District Programme Officer, Dehradun, to ensure strict compliance with the order across all concerned educational institutions and Anganwadi centres.
The district administration has also urged residents to remain alert during the period of heavy rainfall and avoid unnecessary movement in vulnerable and risk-prone areas.
