Former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh passes away at 92

Former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh passed away on Thursday at the age of 92. He was brought to the medical emergency of AIIMS, New Delhi at 8:06 pm on Thursday. Despite all efforts, he could not be saved and he breathed his last at 9:51 pm in AIIMS. The news of his death has created a wave of mourning across the country. 

Dr Manmohan Singh’s contribution to Indian politics and economy was unprecedented, and with his demise the country has lost a great leader.

The series of people paying tribute to Dr. Manmohan Singh, former Prime Minister of India twice, continues. All government programs scheduled for Friday have been cancelled. Seven days of national mourning has been declared. From the President, Vice President and Prime Minister to many big leaders and personalities of the country, all have expressed grief over the demise of the former PM.

The central government has canceled all its programs on the demise of Dr Singh. Congress has also canceled its national convention midway. There is a queue of people paying tribute to Dr Singh at his house in Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also visited Dr Singh’s residence and paid tribute to the departed soul. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has paid tribute to Dr Singh by offering flowers on his picture.

The Uttarakhand government has also declared 7 days of state mourning. According to the order issued by the Uttarakhand government,

Following the death of the former PM, the district administration of Dehradun cancelled the cultural programmes to be held during the Mussoorie Winterline carnival. The carnival commenced on December 26 and will end on December 30.
