Prime Minister Modi Highlights Uttarakhand’s Winter Tourism in ‘Mann Ki Baat’

NEW DELHI/DEHRADUN: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ address broadcast on Sunday, devoted nearly two and a half minutes exclusively to Uttarakhand, showcasing his deep affection for the state and its growing potential in winter tourism, adventure sports, and destination weddings. He urged people across the country to experience the serene beauty of the Himalayas during the winter season.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister, stating that PM Modi is the biggest brand ambassador of Uttarakhand Tourism.
PM Modi Showcases Uttarakhand’s Winter Attractions
During the address, the Prime Minister highlighted that Uttarakhand’s winter destinations—Auli, Munsyari, Dayara Bugyal, and Chopta—are increasingly drawing tourists. He emphasized the state’s efforts to promote adventure sports and shared the success of the recent high-altitude ultra run marathon held in Pithoragarh at an elevation of 14,500 feet.
The event attracted over 750 athletes from 18 states. The 60-km ‘Adi Kailash Parikrama Run’ started at 5 a.m. in freezing temperatures, yet the enthusiasm of the participants remained unmatched.
PM Modi noted that just three years ago, only about 2,000 people visited Adi Kailash annually, while this year the number has reached 30,000, signifying a tremendous boost in spiritual and adventure tourism.
Upcoming Winter Games & Strengthened Infrastructure
The Prime Minister also praised Uttarakhand for its upcoming Winter Games, which will draw athletes, adventure lovers, and sports enthusiasts from across the nation.
He appreciated the robust improvements in connectivity and tourism infrastructure, noting that the state government has introduced a new Homestay Policy to expand community-based tourism and provide authentic local experiences.
Uttarakhand Emerging as a Leading Wedding Destination
Highlighting a unique trend, PM Modi said that Uttarakhand is quickly becoming a preferred destination wedding hotspot, especially along the banks of the Ganga. The combination of golden winter sunlight and misty mountain landscapes creates an enchanting setting for memorable ceremonies.
He encouraged travellers to consider the Himalayas during the winter season, assuring that the valleys offer “experiences that last a lifetime.”
Tourism Boost from PM’s Frequent Visits
Every visit by the Prime Minister to Uttarakhand has significantly enhanced tourism momentum. From Kedarnath and Badrinath to Adi Kailash and Jageshwar Dham, PM Modi’s spiritual journeys have led to a remarkable rise in pilgrim footfall.
His presence in Mukhba village last year to inaugurate the winter tourism season gave a strong push to tourism activities in the Harsil valley, driving new livelihood opportunities for local communities.
PM’s Words Endorse Dhami Government’s Efforts
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has been consistently working to promote winter tourism, winter yatras, and destination weddings. With the Prime Minister publicly appreciating these initiatives, the Dhami government has received a strong and positive endorsement of its developmental efforts.
Uttarakhand Committed to Sustainable Development
Expressing the sentiments of the people, Chief Minister Dhami said that the entire state is grateful to the Prime Minister for highlighting Uttarakhand’s vast potential on the global stage.
He added,
“The state government is committed to realizing the Prime Minister’s vision of positioning Uttarakhand prominently on the map of natural, spiritual, and adventure tourism.”
