Dehradun on High Alert as Cold Wave Intensifies; Administration Issues Advisory and Strengthens Winter Preparedness

DEHRADUN: With temperatures continuing to fall across Dehradun, the district administration has moved into high alert mode to tackle the increasing cold wave conditions. Acting on the directions of District Magistrate Savin Bansal, Additional District Magistrate K.K. Mishra chaired a review meeting with various departments at the NIC auditorium on Saturday to assess winter preparedness.

Relief for Homeless: Bonfires and Shelters Strengthened
The ADM instructed departments to ensure nighttime bonfires at major public locations including intersections, hospitals and bus stands. All shelter homes (rain baseros) are to operate at full capacity with adequate mattresses, blankets and heaters. Warm blankets will also be distributed to needy families.

Health Advisory for Children, Pregnant Women and Elderly
Hospitals have been directed to maintain adequate availability of medicines and medical staff. The Health Department will issue a winter advisory for children, pregnant women and senior citizens. Complete data of pregnant women will be maintained to ensure timely medical attention during emergencies.

Snow, Frost and Fog: Departments on Alert
Special instructions were issued for installation of signage in snow and frost-prone areas. Sufficient manpower and machinery must remain ready to clear snow-blocked roads quickly. To prevent accidents due to dense fog, traffic rules will be strictly enforced.

Advance Ration Supply to Remote Villages
Departments have been asked to ensure advance supply of food grains, water and other essentials in remote villages. Power, water and road maintenance agencies were told to keep a full contingency plan ready.

Control Rooms Activated; Protection for Stray Animals
All tehsil-level control rooms will remain active with adequate relief and rescue equipment. Public awareness about emergency helpline numbers will be increased. Arrangements for stray animals during the cold wave must also be completed timely.

The meeting was attended by SDM Aparna Dhoundiyal, ACMO Dr. Bandana Semwal, CEO V.K. Dhoundiyal, DSO K.K. Agarwal, CVO Dr. S.C. Joshi, DTDO Brijendra Pandey, DDMO Rishabh Kumar and officials from electricity, road, water and other departments.
