Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami has recommended a CBI investigation into the Ankita Bhandari case, respecting the demand and sentiments of her parents.

DEHRADUN: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has recommended a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the Ankita Bhandari case, respecting the request and emotional sentiments of her parents.

The Chief Minister made it clear that the sole objective of the state government has always been—and will continue to be—to ensure justice in a fair, transparent, and sensitive manner at every stage of the process.

Recalling the tragic and heartbreaking incident, Chief Minister Dhami said that immediately after the matter came to light, the state government acted swiftly, with full sensitivity and impartiality. Given the gravity of the case, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was constituted without delay under the leadership of a woman IPS officer.

He stated that all accused were promptly arrested, and the state government ensured strong and effective legal representation. As a result, none of the accused were granted bail during the course of the investigation and trial. Following a detailed investigation, the SIT filed a chargesheet, and after the completion of trial in the lower court, the accused were awarded life imprisonment.

Chief Minister Dhami said that the handling of the case reflects the state government’s firm commitment to justice, transparency, and accountability from beginning to end. He also informed that separate FIRs have been registered in connection with certain audio clips recently circulated on social media, and investigations into those matters are currently underway.

Reiterating the government’s stand, the Chief Minister asserted that its intentions are absolutely clear and that no fact or piece of evidence will be ignored. Expressing deep emotion, he said Ankita was not merely a victim, but “our sister and our daughter.”

The Chief Minister further informed that during a recent meeting with Ankita Bhandari’s parents, they expressed their desire for a CBI investigation into the case. Respecting their request and sentiments, the state government has now decided to hand over the investigation to the CBI.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami reaffirmed that the Uttarakhand government remains fully committed, determined, and sensitive in its pursuit of justice, and will leave no stone unturned to ensure justice for the late Ankita Bhandari.
