Dalanwala Firing Incident: IG Garhwal Inspects Crime Scene, Orders Swift Arrest of Accused

Strict Instructions on Law & Order; Accountability of Capital’s Officers to Be Fixed

Dehradun, February 11:
Taking serious note of the firing incident that occurred in the Dalanwala police station area of Dehradun district, Inspector General of Police (Garhwal Range) Rajiv Swaroop visited the spot and conducted a detailed inspection of the crime scene. During the inspection, he closely reviewed the circumstances of the incident, available physical and technical evidence, and the police action taken so far.

The IG Garhwal directed the Senior Superintendent of Police, Dehradun to ensure the early identification of all persons involved in the crime and to constitute special investigation teams for the swift arrest of the accused. He emphasized that all necessary legal, technical, and surveillance resources must be effectively utilized to ensure prompt arrest and strict legal action against the culprits. He further instructed the department to formulate a concrete and long-term strategy to prevent the recurrence of such incidents in the future.

Review Meeting with Circle Officers, Focus on Crime Control

In view of the sensitivity of the incident, a review meeting was convened at the Range Office with all Circle Officers (COs) of Dehradun district. The meeting reviewed recent criminal incidents and issued necessary directions for their speedy detection, effective prevention, and further strengthening of the law and order mechanism.

The IG instructed that:

  • All Circle Officers must conduct regular field visits and ensure visible police presence in their respective areas.

  • Station House Officers and outpost in-charges should be regularly briefed and made more accountable towards maintaining law and order.

  • Sensitive and dispute-prone matters should be taken up on priority and resolved under the close supervision of the respective Circle Officers.

  • Regular and surprise (random) checking drives should be conducted to apprehend suspicious persons.

  • Preventive action must be taken in advance in cases related to personal enmity, land disputes, and other sensitive matters.

Emphasis on Social Media Monitoring and Public Awareness

The IG directed that any incident or information surfacing on social media must be taken cognizance of without delay and appropriate legal action must be ensured. He stressed the need to further strengthen social media monitoring mechanisms to effectively curb rumours and misleading information.

He also instructed officers to conduct regular inspections of security arrangements at banks and to organize public awareness programmes in schools and educational institutions on personal safety and cyber crime.

Accountability to Be Fixed for Any Lapses

The IG Garhwal made it clear that in case of recurrence of such criminal incidents in any area, accountability will be fixed not only on the concerned SHO and outpost in-charge but also on the respective Circle Officer. He directed all officers to work with full alertness and commitment to maintain law and order, instil a sense of security among the public, and ensure strict and swift action against criminals.
