Dehradun, May 14, 2026
In a significant step towards ensuring better healthcare facilities for persons with disabilities, the district administration has intensified the implementation of the “Niramaya Health Insurance Scheme” in Dehradun district. The scheme, operated by the National Trust under the Government of India, aims to provide affordable and accessible healthcare services to specially-abled individuals.
Under the scheme, persons suffering from Cerebral Palsy, Autism, Mental Retardation, and Multiple Disabilities will be provided annual health insurance coverage of up to ₹1 lakh. The insurance cover includes OPD treatment, medicines, pathology and diagnostic tests, preventive dental care, non-surgical hospitalization, and corrective surgeries related to congenital disabilities.
In addition, expenses related to therapies, alternative treatments, and other medical interventions aimed at reducing the impact of disabilities will also be covered under the scheme, providing much-needed financial relief to beneficiaries and their families.
District Social Welfare Officer Deepankar Ghildiyal informed that eligible beneficiaries from the general category will only need to pay an annual premium of ₹500 to avail the benefits of the scheme. Meanwhile, Divyangjans belonging to Below Poverty Line (BPL) families will receive the insurance coverage completely free of cost.
Taking the initiative further, District Magistrate Savin Bansal has approved the payment of health insurance premiums for 500 Divyangjans under the district disability welfare fund during the first phase of the financial year 2026-27. As a result, 500 selected beneficiaries will receive the benefits of the scheme without any financial burden.
The District Magistrate has directed the District Social Welfare Officer to ensure the identification of eligible beneficiaries and instructed the District Disability Rehabilitation Centre (DDRC), Dehradun, to facilitate the online registration process for insurance applications.
Interested beneficiaries and their family members can contact DDRC Dehradun at 8791009301 for registration and further information regarding the scheme.
