Big Boost to Urban Development: CM Dhami Lays Foundation Stones for Key Projects in Dehradun

CM Pushkar Singh Dhami Marks 27th Foundation Day of Dehradun Municipal Corporation; Unveils and Lays Foundation Stones for Projects Worth ₹46 Crore

DEHRADUN: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Tuesday participated in the 27th Foundation Day celebrations of the Dehradun Municipal Corporation and inaugurated as well as laid the foundation stone for various development projects worth over ₹46 crore, aimed at modernizing urban infrastructure in the state capital.

Dehradun MC Completes 27 Years of Urban Transformation

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said that over the last 27 years, the Municipal Corporation has significantly expanded civic amenities and modernized city management, helping Dehradun evolve into a clean, safe, and well-organized urban center. He said the Foundation Day is not only a celebration of achievements but also a commitment to shaping Dehradun’s future-ready development.

Urban Development Boost Under Central and State Missions

CM Dhami highlighted that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is witnessing rapid progress through key national initiatives such as:

  • Swachh Bharat Mission

  • AMRUT Mission

  • Smart City Mission

  • Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana

  • Pradhan Mantri Swanidhi Yojana

  • Open Defecation Free (ODF) Campaign

  • Legacy Waste Management

He said these schemes have strengthened cleanliness, sanitation, sewerage, water supply, and green infrastructure across urban India.

Major Projects Underway to Shape Modern Dehradun

The Chief Minister informed that projects worth more than ₹1,400 crore are currently underway to transform Dehradun into a fully modern city. Key initiatives include:

  • A modern mechanized transfer station for efficient waste management

  • An Integrated Command and Control Centre for real-time monitoring of garbage vehicles

  • Development of 35 new parks to enhance green cover

He further announced the construction of Dehradun’s largest yoga-themed park in Kedarpur and the development of 50,000 sq. meters of green space through memorial parks dedicated to brave martyrs.

The Renew Rispana Campaign is also ongoing to rejuvenate the city’s water bodies. Additionally, 30 electric buses are already running in the city, supported by 11 charging stations for private EVs.

Thanks to sustained efforts, Dehradun secured the 19th rank in the Clean Air Survey under the National Clean Air Program and improved to the 62nd position in the national cleanliness rankings this year.

Long-Term Solutions for Traffic and Parking

CM Dhami said the government is working to provide permanent solutions to Dehradun’s rising traffic and parking challenges.
Plans include:

  • Construction of underground parking facilities at multiple locations

  • Development of elevated roads over the Rispana and Bindal rivers to ease congestion

During the program, the Chief Minister also felicitated municipal employees for their outstanding service.

Mayor Highlights Corporation’s Smart City Initiatives

Mayor Saurabh Thapliyal emphasized ongoing efforts to develop Dehradun into a modern, eco-friendly, and citizen-centric city. He outlined key works being carried out by the corporation in various wards.

The event witnessed the presence of Cabinet Minister Subodh Uniyal, MLAs Khajan Das, Vinod Chamoli, and Umesh Sharma Kau, Municipal Commissioner Namami Bansal, along with senior officials and councilors.

  2. Gas-operated Animal Crematorium, Mothrowala | ₹147.89 lakh

  3. Canal Road – Luxuria Farm to Ajanta Hotel – Road, footpath, greenery, beautification | ₹247.58 lakh

  4. Kuthal Gate to Rajpur Chowk – Road, footpath, greenery, beautification | ₹257.67 lakh

  5. Ghantaghar to RTO Chowk – Road, footpath, greenery, beautification | ₹165.84 lakh

  6. Ghantaghar to Yamuna Colony – Road, footpath, greenery, beautification | ₹193.11 lakh

  7. Vivekananda Chowk to Kuthal Gate – Road, footpath, greenery, beautification | ₹234.79 lakh
