CM Dhami Hands Over Appointment Letters to 142 Assistant Professors; Over 17 Lakh Beneficiaries Receive ₹3,300 Crore Cashless Treatment Under Ayushman Yojana

Dehradun: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Tuesday distributed appointment letters to 142 newly selected Assistant Professors for government medical colleges. The appointments were made through the Medical Services Selection Board and are aimed at strengthening medical education and healthcare services across Uttarakhand.
Congratulating the newly appointed faculty members, CM Dhami said that their contribution will play a decisive role in enhancing the quality of medical education in the state. He urged them to provide not only robust academic training but also instill sensitivity, empathy, and a spirit of service in upcoming doctors. “It is essential that our students become skilled, compassionate, and responsible professionals committed to serving humanity,” he added.
Massive Expansion of Health Infrastructure in Uttarakhand
The Chief Minister said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Uttarakhand has made significant strides in healthcare reform.

Over 61 lakh Ayushman cards have been issued in the state.

More than 17 lakh patients have availed cashless treatment worth over ₹3,300 crore under the Ayushman Yojana.

The state is establishing a medical college in every district, ensuring accessible modern healthcare even in remote regions.

Five medical colleges are already operational, and work on two more is in progress.

Super-specialty departments have been set up in Dehradun, Haldwani and Srinagar medical colleges.
CM Dhami also highlighted the progress of the state’s first modern cancer institute in Haldwani, the impact of the heli-ambulance service in emergency situations, and the availability of free pathological tests and telemedicine facilities for remote villages.
Strengthening Workforce in the Health Sector
Addressing concerns about staffing shortages, the Chief Minister announced:

Appointments completed for 1,248 nursing officers and 170 technicians,

Recruitment process ongoing for nearly 600 additional nursing officers.
He emphasized that the state has resolved earlier issues of favoritism, corruption, and exam irregularities by implementing the country’s strictest anti-cheating law. As a result, nearly 27,000 youth have secured government jobs purely on merit in recent years.

Currently, 62% of faculty in government medical colleges are permanent, with numbers expected to rise.

70% of construction work at Pithoragarh and Rudrapur medical colleges has been completed; both are expected to start from the next academic session.

625 MBBS students and 256 postgraduate students are enrolled in government medical colleges.

Around 14,000 students pursue nursing annually in nearly 100 nursing colleges across the state.

All recently appointed 3,000 nursing staff belong to Uttarakhand.

32 lakh people have benefitted from free health check-ups, and 350 critical patients have been shifted to higher centers via air ambulance.
