CM Dhami Visits Sarraf Mandal Jewellery Exhibition in Dehradun, Emphasises ‘Local to Global’ Recognition for Traditional Jewellery
Dehradun, September 6, 2026: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami visited and reviewed a grand jewellery exhibition organised by Sarraf Mandal Dehradun at a hotel on Rajpur Road in Dehradun on Sunday.
During his visit, the Chief Minister inspected various jewellery collections, traditional designs and the craftsmanship of local goldsmiths and artisans. He congratulated the organisers and members of the goldsmith community for organising the exhibition.
CM Dhami said that such exhibitions play an important role in promoting Indian art, culture, traditions and indigenous skills while providing artisans and craftsmen with new opportunities to showcase their products.
He said the goldsmith community is not merely engaged in jewellery making but also plays an important role in preserving India’s rich cultural heritage and traditional craftsmanship and passing it on to future generations.
Promoting Traditional Jewellery Through ‘Vocal for Local’
The Chief Minister said that initiatives such as ‘Vocal for Local’, ‘Make in India’, ‘Made in India’ and ‘Startup India’, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, are providing new recognition and opportunities to local artisans, indigenous products and traditional skills.
He said that in line with the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat-2047’, continuous efforts are being made to establish India as a leading global hub for jewellery manufacturing and designing.
Uttarakhand’s Traditional Jewellery Can Reach Global Markets
CM Dhami highlighted the rich tradition of jewellery in Uttarakhand and said that traditional ornaments such as the Garhwali Nath, Paunji, Champakali Haar, Kumaoni Guloband, Pichora Haar and Jhumka represent the state’s unique cultural identity.
He emphasised the need to preserve these traditional designs while also adapting them to contemporary preferences and modern requirements. Such an approach, he said, can help take Uttarakhand’s traditional jewellery from the local market to national and international platforms.
Focus on Skill Development and Economic Empowerment
The Chief Minister said the Uttarakhand government is committed to promoting traditional skills, handicrafts and local artisans. Effective steps will be taken to strengthen goldsmiths and craftsmen through skill development, financial assistance and better market linkages.
He added that along with preserving traditional jewellery, it is equally important to equip artisans with modern skills and technologies. This can create new employment and self-employment opportunities for the youth while strengthening their connection with Uttarakhand’s rich cultural heritage.
Call for Participation in Building a ‘Best State’
CM Dhami said that the state government is working with an ‘unwavering resolve’ to make Uttarakhand the best state in the country. He called upon the goldsmith community and local artisans to actively contribute to this vision.
Office-bearers and members of Sarraf Mandal Dehradun, representatives of the goldsmith community, jewellery traders, artisans and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
