Dehradun: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has proposed the inclusion of the Shrimad Bhagwat Geeta in the school curriculum, emphasizing the importance of moral and value-based education. The directive came during a review meeting of the Education Department at the Chief Minister’s Camp Office.
CM Dhami called for a comprehensive 10-year plan to drive innovation in the education sector and asked officials to prepare a “silver celebration calendar” by December 2026 to mark key milestones and activities.
He stressed the need to inspect all schools across the state before the monsoon to assess infrastructure such as roads, bridges, and basic amenities. Highlighting the importance of student safety, he warned of strict action against any negligence.
To enhance residential facilities, the Chief Minister instructed officials to study best practices from other states and propose plans for residential hostels in cluster schools. Initially, one such hostel will be developed in each district. Additionally, a transport plan is to be prepared for students residing within a 15-km radius of 559 cluster schools.
The Chief Minister directed that textbooks be delivered on time every academic year and called for full transparency in the teacher transfer process, with proposals based on detailed studies. He also emphasized phased implementation of NCC and NSS in schools currently lacking these programs.
To further strengthen the education system, CM Dhami urged collaboration with industrial units under the CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) fund. He also called for accelerated repair of dilapidated schools and reinforced the need for strict safety measures for children.
Addressing curriculum development, he advocated for the inclusion of moral education, environmental studies, local cultural heritage, contributions of great personalities, skill development tailored to regional needs, health education, folk literature, music, and arts. The state also aims to ensure that Rajiv Gandhi Navodaya Vidyalayas operate at full student capacity by maintaining waiting lists.
The Chief Minister reiterated the state’s commitment to effectively implementing the National Education Policy 2020.
Education Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat, along with senior education department officials including Secretary Ravinath Raman and Directors of Basic and Secondary Education, were present at the meeting.
