Chief Minister Dhami Calls on Social Media Creators to Strengthen ‘Brand Uttarakhand’

“CM Pushkar Singh Dhami urges social media creators to strengthen Brand Uttarakhand by promoting tourism, culture, local products & positive stories.”

Dehradun: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Wednesday urged social media influencers and digital content creators to actively promote Uttarakhand’s tourism, culture, products, and developmental achievements. He said that responsible creators can play a crucial role both in showcasing the state’s strengths and in countering misinformation.

Addressing the “Social Media Manthan” program held at the “Mukhya Sevak Sadan”, the Chief Minister said that social media has today emerged as the fastest and most powerful medium of communication. “A person sitting in any corner of the world can share their views globally within seconds. It has given an unprecedented voice to the common citizen,” he said. From global events to small village issues, information now reaches millions in no time.

The Chief Minister highlighted how Prime Minister Narendra Modi transformed social media into a major pillar of governance after 2014. Platforms like X, Facebook, ‘Mann Ki Baat,’ MyGov, and the PMO’s digital ecosystem, he said, have ushered in an era of citizen-driven, transparent, and participative governance. He added that the Prime Minister is among the world’s most followed political leaders, setting global benchmarks in digital communication.

Inspired by this vision, the state government is working toward building a “Digital Uttarakhand.” CM Dhami said that all departments today communicate directly with the public, and complaints that earlier required multiple office visits are now resolved promptly through a tweet or Facebook message. He personally reviews suggestions, complaints, and concerns received on various platforms every day.

He cited several examples where a single social media post or live video has led to timely medical help for a child, restoration of an elderly person’s pension, quick road repairs, or the safe rescue of disaster-stricken citizens.

However, he also raised concerns about the growing misuse of social media. Fake news, rumors, negative narratives, and misleading interpretations of government schemes, he said, have become a major challenge. “Some people are using this powerful medium to create ideological divides and disturb social harmony,” he warned.

The Chief Minister expressed concern over attempts by individuals with anti-religious or anti-national mindsets to defame the state’s cultural and religious heritage. “Any misleading or baseless content must be fact-checked immediately, and accurate information should reach the public,” he stressed.

He said that, in pursuit of views and followers, some creators distort news related to governance, society, religion, or state pride. “In the race for fame, one must not forget the fine line between social duty and moral responsibility,” he added.

CM Dhami also noted that since the state government began strict action against anti-social elements to preserve the sanctity of Devbhoomi Uttarakhand, certain groups have attempted to create fake narratives using anonymous or fake social media accounts.

Appealing to digital creators, he said, “Highlight our state’s tourist destinations, local products, cultural richness, and success stories. Your content can significantly strengthen the identity of Brand Uttarakhand.”

Director General of Information Banshidhar Tiwari and various other officials were present at the program.
