Chief Minister Dhami Operates Tiller in His Field, Promotes Traditional and Organic Farming

Khatima: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Monday personally operated a tiller in his agricultural field located at his residence in Nagla Tarai, Khatima, and applied natural manure made from cow dung, conveying a strong message in support of organic and traditional farming practices. His mother, Bishna Devi, was also present and participated during the farming activities.

While working in the field, the Chief Minister highlighted the importance of farmers’ hard work, agricultural traditions, and rural values. He said that agriculture is not merely a means of livelihood but the foundation of India’s culture, civilization, and rural economy. The dedication and efforts of farmers ensure the nation’s food security and self-reliance. Therefore, modern agricultural technologies should be integrated with traditional knowledge and natural farming methods to achieve sustainable growth.

The Chief Minister stated that Uttarakhand’s identity is deeply rooted in its natural heritage, agricultural traditions, and rural culture. He noted that the traditional farming practices followed in the state’s rural and mountainous regions for generations serve as excellent examples of environmentally sustainable agriculture. With the growing global demand for organic and naturally produced food, he said Uttarakhand farmers have a significant opportunity to benefit from this emerging market.

Emphasizing the importance of natural farming methods, Dhami said that cow dung manure, organic compost, and other traditional agricultural practices help improve soil fertility, conserve water, and maintain ecological balance. Excessive dependence on chemical fertilizers and pesticides can adversely affect soil health, whereas natural farming supports long-term agricultural productivity and environmental sustainability.

Appealing to farmers to adopt organic and natural farming on a larger scale, the Chief Minister said that the state government is continuously working to strengthen the agricultural sector, increase farmers’ incomes, and promote local agricultural products in national and international markets. He added that agriculture-based entrepreneurship and value-added activities are also being encouraged to create new opportunities for rural communities.

Dhami further stated that the state government is implementing various schemes to promote traditional farming, horticulture, natural agriculture, millets, indigenous crops, and the marketing of local products. Through these initiatives, farmers are being provided with technical support, training, modern agricultural equipment, and financial assistance.

The Chief Minister emphasized that agriculture plays a crucial role in Uttarakhand’s overall development. Along with making farming more profitable and technology-driven, it is equally important to connect the younger generation with agriculture and rural development. Increased youth participation, he said, would foster innovation, technology adoption, and entrepreneurship in the sector, creating new employment opportunities in villages and helping to address the issue of migration.

Expressing confidence in the future of sustainable agriculture, Dhami said that by promoting organic and natural farming, Uttarakhand can emerge as a model state for environmentally responsible and sustainable agricultural development.
