Dehradun Gears Up for International Day of Yoga; CM Dhami to Lead ‘Run for Yoga’ on June 19
Mass Yoga Session to Be Held at Parade Ground Multipurpose Sports Hall on June 21; Special Yoga Events Planned at Lakhamandal and Hanol

Preparations for the 12th International Day of Yoga are in full swing across Dehradun district, with the district administration, AYUSH Department, and various government agencies working in coordination to ensure the successful and grand conduct of the celebrations.
A review meeting chaired by Additional District Magistrate (Finance & Revenue) K.K. Mishra was held on Monday to finalize arrangements and assign responsibilities to various departments. Officials were instructed to ensure seamless coordination and timely completion of all necessary preparations to make the event well-organized and widely participative.
The administration aims to promote yoga as a way of life while spreading awareness about health, fitness, and holistic well-being among the public.
Chief Minister to Lead ‘Run for Yoga’ on June 19
During the meeting, the District Ayurvedic and Unani Officer informed that a ‘Run for Yoga’ event will be organized on June 19, 2026, from Police Lines, Race Course, Dehradun, as part of the International Day of Yoga celebrations.
The event will be led by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and is expected to witness the participation of more than 770 participants, including public representatives, senior government officials, students, yoga practitioners, volunteers, and citizens.
Prominent attendees will include Mayor Saurabh Thapliyal, AYUSH and AYUSH Education Minister Madan Kaushik, Dharampur MLA Vinod Chamoli, AYUSH Secretary Ranjana Rajguru, Additional Secretary Vijay Kumar Jogdande, District Magistrate Dr. Ashish Chauhan, and officials from various departments.
The run will commence from Police Ground, Race Course, proceed through Tyagi Road, and conclude back at the Police Ground. The objective of the event is to encourage public awareness about yoga, promote healthy living, and inspire people to adopt yoga as a regular part of their daily routine.
Main Yoga Day Event on June 21
The district-level main celebration of the International Day of Yoga will be held on June 21, 2026, from 7:00 AM to 8:00 AM at the Multipurpose Sports Hall, Parade Ground, Dehradun.
Participants will perform yoga asanas, pranayama, and meditation practices under the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP), guided by trained yoga instructors and experts. The session aims to promote physical fitness, mental wellness, and spiritual harmony among participants.
Special Yoga Sessions at Heritage Sites
To connect yoga with India’s rich cultural heritage, special yoga programs will also be organized at the historically and culturally significant sites of Lakhamandal and Hanol. These sessions will likewise follow the Common Yoga Protocol and are expected to attract local residents, tourists, and yoga enthusiasts.
Departments Assigned Specific Responsibilities
ADM K.K. Mishra directed all concerned departments, including the Police Department, Education Department, Sports Department, Health Department, and Municipal Corporation, to ensure adequate arrangements related to security, traffic management, medical support, sanitation, drinking water, parking, and participant convenience.
He emphasized that the International Day of Yoga is not merely an event but a mass movement promoting a healthy and balanced lifestyle. The active cooperation of all departments, institutions, and citizens is essential for its success.
Citizens Urged to Participate
The district administration has appealed to residents to actively participate in both the ‘Run for Yoga’ on June 19 and the mass yoga session on June 21. Officials stated that these events will not only enhance awareness about yoga but also strengthen the vision of a healthier and fitter society.
The celebrations are expected to further reinforce the national objectives of promoting wellness, preventive healthcare, and the spirit of the Fit India Movement, while highlighting yoga’s role as a powerful tool for physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
