Financial Constraints Won’t Disrupt Treatment of Children with Rare Diseases: DM

District Administration Ensures Financial Support for Children with Rare Diseases; ₹9.60 Lakh Released for Treatment of 10 Children

Dehradun, September 26, 2026: The Dehradun district administration is taking continuous steps to ensure timely and quality treatment for children suffering from rare and serious diseases. District Magistrate Dr Ashish Chauhan is personally monitoring the treatment, referral process, financial assistance and medical progress of children identified under the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK).

So far, 32 children have been identified with rare diseases in the district. Of these, 22 children are receiving treatment under RBSK, while 10 children have been identified as cases that are not covered under the RBSK framework.

To ensure that financial constraints do not disrupt the treatment of these children, ₹9.60 lakh has been made available to the Chief Medical Officer from the CSR fund on the directions of the District Magistrate. The financial assistance is being utilized for the treatment of the 10 identified children.

Financial Assistance Provided for Treatment of 10 Children

With the support of the district administration, treatment has been provided to 10-year-old Umesh from Premnagar, 13-year-old Ayesha from Bairaj, 9-year-old Vanshika from Doiwala, 2-year-old Aksh from Raipur, 3-year-old Aris from Mehuwala, 15-year-old Babu and Pradeep from Manduwala, 20-year-old Ranjit from Manduwala, 5-year-old Shamshad from Doiwala and 5-year-old Divyansh from Jogiwala.

Several of these children require surgery as well as long-term medical supervision and follow-up care.

Children suffering from serious and rare diseases whose families are unable to bear the high cost of treatment are being referred to specialized hospitals and advanced medical institutions across the country, depending on their medical requirements.

Rifle Club Fund to Provide Additional Assistance

Treatment for rare diseases can involve substantial expenditure and may continue for an extended period. Recognizing the need for sustained financial support, the District Magistrate has directed officials to provide assistance through the CSR fund as well as the Rifle Club Fund, wherever required, so that treatment is not interrupted due to financial constraints.

Dr Ashish Chauhan directed officials to ensure that there is no unnecessary delay at any stage of treatment for eligible children. All formalities related to documentation, medical referrals, approvals and financial assistance must be completed within the prescribed timelines.

He further directed that if additional financial assistance is required even after support available under RBSK, the district administration should provide the necessary assistance from the Rifle Club Fund.

“The treatment of no child should be affected due to lack of financial resources,” the District Magistrate said.

Regular Monitoring of All Identified Cases

The District Magistrate said providing timely and quality medical care to children suffering from serious and rare diseases remains among the district administration’s top priorities. He directed officials of the Health Department, District Programme Office and Education Department to regularly monitor all identified cases and maintain continuous communication with the children’s parents or guardians.

During the review meeting, the current treatment status, medical progress, referral process, availability of financial assistance and other treatment-related arrangements for each child were reviewed in detail.

The District Magistrate directed all concerned departments to work with coordination, sensitivity and promptness to ensure that no administrative or financial hurdle affects the treatment of any child.

He also instructed officials to continue the identification of children suffering from rare diseases across the district so that no eligible child is deprived of necessary treatment and assistance.
