MLA Vinod Chamoli and Dehradun DM Dr Ashish Chauhan conduct on-site inspection of accident-prone stretch

Dehradun, September 26, 2026: To strengthen road safety measures and prevent accidents at the accident-prone black spot in the Mohabbewala area along the Delhi-Dehradun Highway, Dharampur MLA Vinod Chamoli and Dehradun District Magistrate Dr Ashish Chauhan conducted an on-site inspection on Saturday.
During the inspection, the MLA and the District Magistrate interacted with local residents, listened to their concerns and suggestions, and held detailed discussions with officials regarding the causes of accidents at the location and measures for a permanent solution.
Over-speeding and overloading emerged as two major factors contributing to accidents at the black spot. The District Magistrate directed the concerned departments to take immediate and effective action to control these violations.
Immediate Measures Along with Long-Term Solution
MLA Vinod Chamoli directed officials to prepare a long-term action plan along with immediate corrective measures at the Mohabbewala black spot. He emphasized incorporating suggestions from local residents while preparing the plan to ensure effective accident prevention.
DM Dr Ashish Chauhan said that road safety is a top priority. He directed departments to implement immediate measures for preventing accidents while also developing permanent and technically sound solutions for the black spot.
He called for coordinated action among all concerned departments to achieve effective and sustainable results.
Task Force to Remain Active Until Accident Risk Is Controlled
DM Dr Ashish Chauhan directed the deployment of a dedicated task force for effective monitoring and enforcement at the accident-prone location. He said the task force would be deployed under the provisions of the Disaster Management Act and would remain active until effective control over accidents in the area is established.
He directed the Police and Transport Departments to ensure 24×7 patrolling and intensive checking in the area. Special emphasis was placed on checking over-speeding, overloading and other traffic violations, along with creating greater awareness among drivers about road safety regulations.
Check Post to Be Set Up Before Accident-Prone Location
The DM directed officials to establish a check post ahead of the accident spot for intensive vehicle inspections. Special attention is to be given to checking overloading in heavy and goods vehicles.
He also directed officials to prepare a traffic management plan, including a roundabout and other necessary traffic arrangements, beyond the check post. The plan should ensure that large and heavy vehicles pass through the designated route safely.

Technical Re-Examination of Black Spot
The District Magistrate directed senior officials of the National Highway authorities to conduct a fresh technical examination of the black spot.
The assessment will cover road design, curves, gradients, visibility, traffic pressure and other technical aspects. Necessary improvements are to be undertaken based on the findings.
He further directed officials to incorporate suggestions received from local residents and public representatives into the technical action plan so that solutions are designed according to local conditions.
Signage, CCTV and Speed Monitoring to Be Strengthened
For enhanced road safety, the DM directed the installation of adequate road signage, CCTV cameras, speed breakers and speed-monitoring equipment at the black spot.
Clear warning signs should be installed in advance to alert motorists that they are approaching an accident-prone stretch. Regular monitoring of vehicle speeds was also directed.
The Police and Transport Departments were instructed to continue enforcement drives while simultaneously conducting awareness activities to encourage motorists to follow road safety norms.
Officials from the National Highway authorities, National Highways Infrastructure-related agencies, Public Works Department, Police and Transport Department, along with local public representatives and residents, were present during the inspection.
