1,611 Elderly Persons Identified for Social Security Benefits Under Seva Sankalp Campaign in Dehradun
Dehradun, October 6, 2026: Under the guidance of the Chief Minister and on the directions of District Magistrate Dr. Ashish Chauhan, the Dehradun district administration is conducting a special campaign to connect eligible elderly persons with social security schemes.
As part of the Seva Sankalp Campaign, a total of 1,611 eligible elderly persons have been identified between July and September 2026 for inclusion under the old age pension scheme. The beneficiaries are expected to start receiving pension benefits from November 2026.
According to the district administration, 708 eligible elderly persons were identified during September alone, and the necessary formalities for their inclusion have been completed. The Social Welfare Department will transfer the pension amount directly into the bank accounts of eligible beneficiaries during the first week of November.
Eligible Elderly Persons to Receive ₹1,500 Monthly Pension
Under the eligibility criteria prescribed by the Social Welfare Department, eligible persons above 60 years of age receive an old age pension of ₹1,500 per month.
If both husband and wife independently fulfil the eligibility criteria, both can receive the pension. In such cases, the family can receive a total pension benefit of ₹3,000 per month through their bank accounts.
The special campaign focuses on identifying elderly persons who are eligible for pension benefits but have so far remained outside the scheme due to lack of information, financial difficulties or challenges related to the application process.
Identification Drive Underway Across Urban and Rural Areas
The district administration has undertaken beneficiary identification at the levels of municipal corporations, municipalities, nagar panchayats, municipal councils, tehsils, development blocks and gram panchayats.
Officials have been instructed to identify eligible elderly persons in their respective areas who have not yet been connected with social security schemes. In rural areas, applications are being processed through gram panchayats, while in urban areas, necessary formalities are being completed through the concerned tehsils and local bodies.
DM Directs Officials to Ensure Benefits Reach Every Eligible Person
District Magistrate Dr. Ashish Chauhan said that financial security in old age is not a favour to an eligible person but their right. He said the district administration’s priority is to ensure that government schemes reach every eligible person in a timely and dignified manner.
He directed officials to identify eligible elderly persons during field visits and surveys and facilitate their inclusion in old age pension and other applicable social security schemes. Officials have also been asked to provide necessary assistance with applications and documentation.
The District Magistrate further directed that applications of eligible elderly persons should not remain pending unnecessarily. He stressed the need for officials to work with sensitivity and a humanitarian approach so that no eligible elderly person is deprived of benefits due to lack of information or difficulties in the application process.
Online Application Facility Available
The facility for online application for the old-age pension is available. Eligible elderly individuals can apply—either personally or with the assistance of family members—through the nearest Common Service Centre (CSC) on the Social Welfare Department’s portal, https://ssp.uk.gov.in/.
