12-Bed Cardiology Wing and New Emergency Medicine Ward Inaugurated at Doon Medical College
Health Minister Subodh Uniyal inaugurates new facilities; enhanced and faster medical care for cardiac, critical and emergency patients

In a significant step towards strengthening healthcare infrastructure in Uttarakhand, a newly constructed 12-bed Cardiology Wing and a new Emergency Medicine Ward were inaugurated at Government Doon Medical College and Hospital, Dehradun, on Saturday.
The facilities were inaugurated in the presence of Health and Medical Education Minister Subodh Uniyal. Their commencement is expected to significantly strengthen the hospital’s capacity to provide timely, advanced and quality medical care to cardiac patients as well as those requiring critical and emergency treatment.
12-Bed Cardiology Wing to Strengthen Cardiac Care
The newly constructed 12-bed Cardiology Wing was formally dedicated to patient care during the programme. The facility will help enhance the capacity of the Cardiology Department to admit, monitor and treat patients suffering from cardiac ailments.
The additional beds and improved infrastructure are expected to provide better treatment and monitoring facilities for cardiac patients and strengthen the hospital’s ability to manage serious heart-related cases.
The expansion marks an important step towards strengthening advanced cardiac healthcare services in the state and improving access to specialized treatment at the government medical college.
New Emergency Medicine Ward to Enhance Critical Care
The new Emergency Medicine Ward was also inaugurated during the programme. Emergency and critical patients require prompt assessment, treatment and continuous monitoring, and the new facility will enhance the hospital’s capacity to manage such cases.
The additional infrastructure will help improve the availability of timely and quality treatment for patients arriving at the hospital in serious or emergency conditions. It is also expected to strengthen the overall emergency-care system at Doon Medical College and Hospital.
Major Step Towards Super-Specialty Medical Education
Doon Medical College and Hospital also achieved a significant milestone in the field of medical education by taking an important step towards introducing super-specialty courses.
As part of this initiative, admission and joining letters were handed over to the first two candidates of the MCH Urology super-specialty programme, Dr. Vishal Singh and Dr. Iqbal Ali.
The initiative marks an important development for medical education in Uttarakhand. The expansion of super-specialty programmes will create opportunities for advanced medical education within the state and lay the foundation for developing a stronger pool of specialist doctors.

Professor (Dr.) Ashutosh Sayana, Head of Department and Director, Medical Education, said the latest developments were the result of the institution’s continued efforts to expand medical education and healthcare services.
He said the institution is continuously working to expand super-specialty services, improve the quality of patient care, strengthen medical education, upgrade infrastructure and enhance human resources.
He added that systematic efforts would continue to expand additional super-specialty services in the future according to the requirements of the state and the institution.
