Relief and Reconstruction Work Accelerates Under Chief Minister’s Monitoring; Safe Connectivity Restored in Maldevta

Under the continuous monitoring of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and the guidance of District Magistrate Dr. Ashish Chauhan, relief, reconstruction and safety measures are progressing rapidly in the disaster-affected areas of Maldevta, Sauda Sarauli and adjoining regions of Dehradun. The district administration, in coordination with various departments, has expedited the restoration of damaged roads, construction of protective walls, riverbank protection works and irrigation infrastructure to ensure safe public movement and minimize the impact of monsoon-related damage.
Heavy rainfall earlier this week had caused significant damage to roads, retaining structures and public infrastructure in the Raipur Assembly constituency. Following an on-site inspection, District Magistrate Dr. Ashish Chauhan directed all concerned departments to immediately undertake restoration and safety works. As a result of prompt administrative action, most of the critical works have already been completed, while the remaining projects are in their final stages.
The district administration is maintaining continuous surveillance over vulnerable locations. Protective nets, retaining walls and other safety installations are being inspected regularly to reduce the risk of landslides and ensure uninterrupted movement of local residents during the ongoing monsoon season.
The rise in the Song River’s water level had also damaged the Kalinga Canal at Maldevta, disrupting irrigation in the area. Acting swiftly, the Irrigation Department completed the canal’s restoration, enabling farmers to receive adequate irrigation water once again and resume agricultural activities without disruption.
To reduce the risk of flooding and riverbank erosion, the administration is also carrying out channelization of the Song River using Pokland and JCB machines. Technical measures are being implemented to regulate the river’s flow and minimize future damage.
Additional District Magistrate K.K. Mishra stated that reconstruction of roads and protective walls damaged due to excessive rainfall is almost complete. Under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), damaged rural roads and safety structures have been restored, while the Public Works Department (PWD) has completed restoration work at damaged locations in the Maldevta area. The Irrigation Department has also restored the Kalinga Canal, providing significant relief to farmers facing irrigation issues.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami is continuously reviewing relief, rescue and reconstruction efforts in the affected areas. The district administration is working in close coordination with all departments to ensure that rehabilitation and restoration activities are completed on priority.
The District Magistrate has directed officials to maintain constant monitoring of all vulnerable locations throughout the monsoon season and ensure immediate response to any emergency, with public safety remaining the highest priority.
