DM Inspects 12-km Greenfield Bypass Project Linked to Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor
Directs NHAI to Ensure Timely Completion, High Construction Quality and Strict Safety Standards

Dehradun District Magistrate Dr. Ashish Chauhan conducted an on-site inspection of the under-construction 12-km Greenfield four-lane bypass project connected to the Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor, reviewing the pace and quality of construction works.
During the inspection, the District Magistrate directed officials of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to expedite construction while ensuring that all work is completed within the stipulated timeline and in accordance with prescribed technical and safety standards.
Dr. Chauhan inspected multiple construction sites, assessing roadworks, structural development, deployment of machinery, workforce availability, and overall project progress. He emphasized that the bypass is a crucial infrastructure project that will significantly improve Dehradun’s traffic management and enhance regional connectivity.
He said that once completed, the bypass will divert heavy and transit traffic away from the city, substantially reducing congestion on Dehradun’s roads. The project will also provide safer, faster, and more convenient travel for residents, tourists, and commercial vehicles.
The District Magistrate instructed NHAI officials to deploy adequate machinery, manpower, and resources at all work sites to maintain construction momentum. He stressed that unnecessary delays would not be tolerated and directed officials to closely monitor every stage of the project.
Highlighting quality control, Dr. Chauhan instructed that all construction activities must strictly adhere to approved engineering specifications. He also reviewed safety arrangements, directing officials to ensure proper barricading, warning signs, traffic diversions, reflective signage, and other safety measures to minimize inconvenience and ensure public safety during construction.
The District Magistrate further instructed officials to conduct regular project reviews and promptly resolve any land acquisition, technical, or administrative issues that could hinder progress.
According to NHAI officials, the project is being developed at an estimated cost of ₹716 crore. The bypass will begin from Jhajhra, connect to the new NH-7 Paonta Sahib/Ballupur section, and merge with the Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor near Asharodi Check Post.
The project is expected to be completed by April 2027. Upon completion, it will reduce traffic congestion within Dehradun city, improve urban mobility, shorten travel time, enhance road safety, and strengthen connectivity across the region.
The inspection was attended by City Magistrate Rakesh Tiwari, Sadar Tehsildar Surendra Dev, and senior officials from NHAI.
