Women from Across Uttarakhand Tie Rakhi to CM Pushkar Singh Dhami on Raksha Bandhan
Dehradun: On the auspicious occasion of Raksha Bandhan, women from different parts of Uttarakhand tied Rakhi to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami at the Mukhya Sevak Sadan at the Chief Minister’s Camp Office on Wednesday. The women wished the Chief Minister good health and a long life.
Chief Minister Dhami warmly welcomed the women and expressed his gratitude for their affection and blessings. He also extended his greetings and best wishes to the people of Uttarakhand on Raksha Bandhan.
The Chief Minister said that Raksha Bandhan is a sacred festival symbolising the bond of affection, trust and the commitment to protect one another between brothers and sisters. He said the affection and blessings of the women of Uttarakhand provide him with renewed energy to serve the state and work towards its development.
He highlighted the important role played by women as the foundation of families as well as active contributors to social and economic development.
Centre Giving Priority to Women’s Empowerment
Chief Minister Dhami said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Central Government has accorded high priority to women’s dignity, safety and economic empowerment. He cited initiatives such as the provision for 33 per cent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and State Legislative Assemblies, Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, Lakhpati Didi initiative, Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana and Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao.
According to the Chief Minister, these initiatives are bringing positive changes to the lives of women and girls and creating new opportunities for their social and economic advancement.
30% Horizontal Reservation for Women in State Services
The Chief Minister said the Uttarakhand Government is also continuously working for the welfare, self-reliance and empowerment of women. Women have been provided 30 per cent horizontal reservation in state government services.
He said the state government is not only expanding opportunities for women but is also placing special emphasis on their economic empowerment so that they can become financially independent and contribute more effectively to the state’s development.
Over 3.09 Lakh Women Become Lakhpati Didis
Chief Minister Dhami said the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to create Lakhpati Didis is being implemented rapidly in Uttarakhand. More than 3.09 lakh women in the state have become Lakhpati Didis so far.
Women associated with Self-Help Groups (SHGs) are strengthening their livelihoods through local products, agriculture, handicrafts and various self-employment activities. Their efforts are not only improving household incomes but are also making an important contribution to Uttarakhand’s local economy.
New Livelihood Opportunities Through Women-Centric Schemes
The Chief Minister said women are being provided new opportunities for self-employment and livelihoods through initiatives including the Mukhyamantri Sashakt Bahna Utsav Yojana, Mukhyamantri Mahila Self-Help Group Empowerment Scheme and Mukhyamantri Mahalaxmi Yojana.
He said the state government is making continuous efforts to provide better markets for products made by women’s Self-Help Groups, increase their sales and improve their incomes. Promoting local products is also helping strengthen traditional handicrafts and local economic activities across Uttarakhand.
Women Playing Key Role in Uttarakhand’s Development
Chief Minister Dhami said the women of Uttarakhand have played a significant role from the statehood movement to the state’s development. Today, women are demonstrating their capabilities across sectors including education, healthcare, administration, agriculture, self-employment, entrepreneurship and social development.
He said greater participation of women is essential for achieving balanced and sustainable development in Uttarakhand. Empowering women with equal opportunities will help realise the vision of a strong Uttarakhand and a developed India.
The Chief Minister reiterated that the state government remains committed to ensuring women’s dignity, safety, self-reliance and economic empowerment. The government’s priority is to enable every woman in Uttarakhand to become financially independent and play a decisive role in the state’s development.
