Sports Minister Rekha Arya Undertakes ‘Olympics 2036 Sankalp Kanwar Yatra’ for India’s Olympic Hosting Bid
Haridwar/Raiwala, August 10: With a resolve and prayer for India to host the Olympic Games in 2036, Uttarakhand Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Rekha Arya on Monday began the ‘Olympics 2036 Sankalp Kanwar Yatra’ from Har Ki Pauri in Haridwar.
The yatra began at around 7 am from the iconic Har Ki Pauri, where Cabinet Minister Rekha Arya performed prayers and rituals before taking Gangajal with the resolve that India successfully hosts the 2036 Olympic Games.
The initiative combines religious faith, patriotism and the spirit of sports, while highlighting India’s aspirations to emerge as a major global sporting destination.
Hundreds of Women Athletes and Players Join Yatra
After commencing from Haridwar, the Sankalp Kanwar Yatra proceeded towards Raiwala, with hundreds of women athletes, sportspersons, young players and local residents participating enthusiastically alongside the Sports Minister.
The route resonated with chants of “Har Har Mahadev” and “Bharat Mata Ki Jai”, creating an atmosphere of devotion and patriotism. At several points along the route, devotees, local residents and sports enthusiasts welcomed the procession.
The participation of athletes and young sportspersons gave the yatra a distinct sporting dimension and conveyed a message of confidence in India’s growing capabilities on the international sports stage.
A Confluence of Faith, Sports and National Aspirations
Through the Olympics 2036 Sankalp Kanwar Yatra, Minister Rekha Arya sought to connect the aspirations of India’s Olympic hosting bid with public participation and the spirit of youth and sports.

Gangajal Abhishek at Veerabhadra Temple in Rishikesh
The Sankalp Kanwar Yatra will conclude on Monday evening at the famous Veerabhadra Temple in Rishikesh. Minister Rekha Arya will perform Jalabhishek of Lord Shiva with the Gangajal carried during the yatra and pray for the successful realization of India’s aspiration to host the 2036 Olympic Games.
The journey from Haridwar to Rishikesh has emerged as a unique blend of spirituality, patriotism and sporting aspirations, with the participation of athletes, youth, devotees and local residents conveying a collective message of hope for India’s Olympic future.
