Dehradun/Chamoli: A major tragedy struck Chamoli district’s Tharali region late Friday night after a cloudburst triggered heavy debris flow. One young woman lost her life after being buried under the debris, while another person has been reported missing.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed deep sorrow over the incident and prayed for the safe recovery of the missing person. He directed officials to ensure swift relief and rescue operations without any delay. Acting on his instructions, police, disaster management teams, district administration, and DDRF personnel immediately reached the affected area, while SDRF and NDRF teams were also dispatched.
Heavy damage to houses and vehicles
The cloudburst in Tunari Gadhera of Tharali Tehsil brought massive debris into the town. Several houses, including the SDM residence, were damaged, while shops were filled with debris and several vehicles were buried. The Karnprayag–Gwaldam road also suffered damage at multiple locations due to heavy rainfall. Restoration work is being carried out on priority.

Sharing his concern on X CM Dhami wrote:
“Sad news has been received about a cloudburst in Tharali area of Chamoli district late last night. District administration, SDRF, and police have reached the spot and are engaged in relief and rescue operations. I am in constant touch with the local administration and personally monitoring the situation. I pray to God for everyone’s safety.”
Review with public representatives
The Chief Minister also spoke to local public representatives of Chamoli over the phone to gather details of the damage. He urged them to extend full cooperation to the district administration in relief efforts. CM Dhami also instructed the local MLA to stay on-site and closely monitor the ongoing relief and rescue work.
