Traditional Heritage and Organic Products of Uttarakhand Get a New Platform in the National Capital

New Delhi: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated the ‘House of Himalayas’ outlet at Uttarakhand Niwas in New Delhi. This outlet will serve as a robust platform to showcase the traditional heritage and organic products of Uttarakhand in an organized manner in the national capital. The initiative aims not only to present the rich folk culture of the state to the country but also to open new markets for local products.

The Chief Minister said this initiative reflects the state government’s vision to give global recognition to the natural and handcrafted products produced in the hilly regions. This step will strengthen the rural economy and provide new opportunities to local artisans and craftsmen.

To promote the sale of local products during the Char Dham Yatra, more than 13 prominent locations have been equipped with attractive floor-standing units and retail carts at sites like Naini Saini Airport, Pantnagar Airport, Dehradun Helipad, GMVN Kedarnath, Badrinath, Harsil, Guptkashi, Kaudiyala, Mussoorie, Parmarth Niketan (Rishikesh), Snow Crest (Badrinath), ATI (Nainital) and Centrio Mall. These retail carts have become major attractions for pilgrims and tourists. In addition, the installation process is underway at prestigious institutions like Marriott Mussoorie, Taj Dehradun, FRI, LBSNAA, and Delhi Haat in the national capital. This initiative is not only providing national and international recognition to local products but also strongly showcasing Uttarakhand’s rich cultural heritage and craftsmanship.

Secretary Rural Development, Radhika Jha, informed that the ‘House of Himalayas’ brand has carved out a distinct identity in a short time based on its quality. Its products are available on houseofhimalayas.com as well as on major e-commerce platforms like Amazon and Blinkit. The brand is also making its mark in leading hotel chains. Strategic partnerships have been established with renowned hotels such as Taj (Rishikesh, Ramnagar), Hyatt Centric, Hyatt Regency (Dehradun), Marriott (Ramnagar), Westin (Narendranagar) and JP Group (Mussoorie) to promote Uttarakhand’s cultural and traditional identity and connect premium tourists with local products. Under this initiative, ‘House of Himalayas’ retail carts have been installed in various major hotels in the state, directly providing tourists access to exclusive handmade and organic products of Uttarakhand. This is not only encouraging economic empowerment of local producers and artisans but also a significant step towards sustainable tourism and self-reliant Uttarakhand.

The concept of the ‘House of Himalayas’ brand was first introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the Global Investors Summit 2023. Under this brand, distinctive products of Uttarakhand such as Buransh squash, wild honey, mountain pulses, traditional spices, handmade textiles and other organic materials will now reach major cities across the country in an organized manner.

Secretary Rural Development Radhika Jha, Uttarakhand’s Resident Commissioner Ajay Mishra, and other officials were present on this occasion.
