UTTARAKHAND: 124th Board Meeting of UPCL held at Urja Bhawan

Dehradun: The 124th meeting of the Board of Directors of Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) was held at Urja Bhawan, Dehradun under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan. The meeting reviewed the progress of various projects related to power generation, transmission, and distribution, and also discussed the achievements of the energy sector along with possible solutions to existing challenges.

The Chief Secretary directed that all ongoing power projects should be completed within stipulated timelines to ensure reliable and affordable electricity supply to consumers. He instructed that a technical member be appointed in the Board of Directors for better clarification and study of technical aspects of various projects, and also directed that the tariff order passed by the Uttarakhand Electricity Regulatory Commission (UERC) be presented in upcoming board meetings. Additionally, he asked to share the details of increased authorized capital of companies with the state government and to fully stabilize the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system by September 2025.

He also emphasized providing grid-based power supply to remote villages in border districts which are currently only covered by solar power.

Several schemes approved by the Board

Approval was granted for installing over 76,000 capacitor banks on transformers across the state to improve voltage quality.

The Board also approved setting up a 100 MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), which will significantly aid in integrating renewable energy in Uttarakhand.

The Chief Secretary instructed that funding for these projects should be arranged at competitive interest rates by assessing offers from various financial institutions before taking a final decision.

Corporation’s achievements

UPCL highlighted that in the past three years, the corporation’s revenue collection has consistently increased, consumer ranking has improved, and Aggregate Technical & Commercial (AT&C) losses have come down.

The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary R. Meenakshi Sundaram, Finance Secretary Dilip Jawalkar, Independent Directors B.P. Pandey and Parag Gupta, Managing Director UPCL Anil Kumar, PITCUL’s P.C. Dhyani, UJVNL’s Sandeep Singhal and other officials.
