Chief Minister Dhami presents award to son Rakesh Matiyani in a dignified ceremony
Dehradun: The Uttarakhand government posthumously honored eminent Hindi writer Shailesh Matiyani with the “Uttarakhand Gaurav Samman-2025”, recognizing his remarkable contribution to Indian literature and his role in enriching the cultural legacy of Uttarakhand. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami presented the award to Shailesh Matiyani’s son, Rakesh Matiyani, in a modest and respectful ceremony held at the Chief Minister’s residence on Monday.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Dhami hailed Shailesh Matiyani as not merely a writer, but a profound interpreter of human emotions. “Shailesh Matiyani was a master storyteller whose works deeply reflected the struggles, simplicity, and resilience of common people. His legacy is an integral part of modern Hindi literature and continues to inspire generations,” he said.
The Chief Minister emphasized that the state government remains committed to honoring those who have contributed significantly to Uttarakhand’s art, culture, and intellectual heritage. He highlighted Matiyani’s literary gems such as Borivali Se Boribandar, Muthbhed, Adhagini, and Cheel, noting that these works continue to hold relevance in contemporary literature.
Dhami added that presenting this prestigious award posthumously is a moment of pride for the government and the people of Uttarakhand. “By celebrating the life and works of literary icons like Shailesh Matiyani, we not only express our gratitude but also inspire a culture of creativity and thoughtful expression,” he said.
Expressing his heartfelt thanks, Rakesh Matiyani said that the honor is a moment of immense pride for his family and for all those who admired and respected his father’s literary journey. “This recognition by the Uttarakhand government reinforces his legacy and will encourage future generations of writers,” he said.
The ceremony was attended by Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman, senior officials, eminent writers, and members of the Matiyani family, who paid tribute to the late author’s indelible impact on Hindi literature.
