Train Uttarakhand Youth in Skills and Languages Aligned with Overseas Job Demand: CM Dhami
Officials directed to maintain regular coordination with Indian missions to identify global employment opportunities and skilled manpower requirements
CM emphasizes expanding international employment opportunities for Uttarakhand’s youth
Dehradun, August 31, 2026: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has emphasized the need to prepare Uttarakhand’s youth for employment opportunities in the global job market by providing them with skill and language training aligned with overseas demand.
The Chief Minister said officials should maintain regular coordination with Indian missions in different countries to gather information about sectors witnessing high demand for skilled manpower and identify employment opportunities available for Uttarakhand’s youth. He also directed that training programmes should be designed according to the specific skill sets and language requirements of overseas markets.
CM Dhami made these remarks during a meeting with Mayank Joshi, Ambassador of India to Jamaica; Devesh Uttam, Ambassador of India to Ethiopia; and Alok Ranjan Jha, High Commissioner of India to Zambia, at the Chief Minister’s residence on Monday. The meeting focused on employment opportunities, skilled manpower requirements and potential avenues for Uttarakhand youth in the three countries.
Skills and language training to match international demand
The Chief Minister said Uttarakhand’s youth possess immense talent and potential and can secure better employment opportunities globally if they receive training according to international market requirements.
He directed officials to assess the demand for skilled manpower in different countries and identify sectors offering significant employment opportunities. Based on this assessment, a comprehensive action plan should be prepared to provide youth with targeted skill development and language training.
CM Dhami also stressed the importance of establishing an effective mechanism to regularly obtain information on overseas employment opportunities through Indian missions and disseminate it among eligible youth in Uttarakhand.
Uttarakhand’s homestay model to be promoted internationally
The Chief Minister highlighted the progress made by Uttarakhand in the homestay sector and said delegations visiting the state from different countries could be taken on visits to successful homestay units to showcase the state’s model of rural tourism and local entrepreneurship.
He further said Uttarakhand has significant potential in sectors such as pharmaceuticals, industry, Ayurveda and wellness. Efforts should be made to showcase the state’s strengths and investment and employment potential in these sectors at the international level.
Employment opportunities in education and agriculture in Zambia
Alok Ranjan Jha, India’s High Commissioner to Zambia, said there is considerable demand for skilled manpower in Zambia. He particularly highlighted opportunities in the education and agriculture sectors.
He said a detailed note on sectors requiring skilled manpower in Zambia would be provided to the Uttarakhand government and assured the state of all possible cooperation in facilitating opportunities for its youth.
Demand for trained nursing professionals in Jamaica
Mayank Joshi, India’s Ambassador to Jamaica, said there are several employment opportunities in tourism, healthcare and agriculture in Jamaica.
He specifically highlighted the demand for trained manpower in the nursing sector, saying that youth can be connected with overseas employment opportunities after receiving appropriate training based on the requirements of these sectors.
Opportunities in management, logistics and pharmaceuticals in Ethiopia
Devesh Uttam, India’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, said there are significant opportunities in management and logistics in Ethiopia. He also highlighted potential opportunities in the pharmaceutical and floriculture sectors.
The discussion focused on how Uttarakhand’s trained workforce could be prepared to meet the manpower requirements emerging in these sectors.
Government committed to expanding employment opportunities for youth
CM Dhami said the state government is continuously working to expand employment and self-employment opportunities for Uttarakhand’s youth. He stressed that the government will focus on developing skills based on international demand so that young people can benefit from employment opportunities available abroad.
He directed officials to work in a structured manner with Indian missions to identify overseas employment opportunities, communicate reliable information to youth and provide training according to the requirements of different countries.
The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary R.K. Sudhanshu and Secretary Vinay Shankar Pandey, among other officials.
