Dehradun, July 10, 2026: In a bid to address the growing traffic congestion and parking challenges in Dehradun, District Magistrate Dr. Ashish Chauhan chaired a high-level review meeting with officials from various departments under the city’s Mobility Plan. The meeting focused on strengthening traffic management, improving parking infrastructure, expediting pending projects, and formulating a comprehensive roadmap for sustainable urban mobility.

Chairing the meeting, the District Magistrate directed all concerned departments to prepare micro-level mobility plans for road improvements, junction upgrades, and traffic management interventions to ensure a smooth, safe, and well-organized transport system across the city.

Dr. Chauhan emphasized that with Dehradun witnessing rapid urban expansion and increasing vehicular traffic, all departments must work in close coordination and implement projects within stipulated timelines to provide long-term solutions to traffic congestion.

The District Magistrate instructed the Public Works Department (PWD) to prepare detailed plans for the improvement and beautification of major roads, intersections, and traffic junctions. He stressed that traffic management should be based on scientific planning and future urban requirements, incorporating road widening, junction redesign, improved traffic flow, signage, and pedestrian safety wherever necessary.

The meeting reviewed traffic management measures in the Aadhat Bazaar area, including road improvement works, junction enhancement, and the proposed mandi (wholesale market) shifting plan. Dr. Chauhan directed officials to prioritize corrective measures in the area to ensure smoother vehicular movement without disrupting commercial activities.

During the review of the under-construction Indira Market Multi-Level Car Parking Project, officials informed the meeting that the facility is being developed with a capacity to accommodate approximately 1,050 vehicles.

Expressing dissatisfaction over the slow pace of construction, the District Magistrate directed the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) to hold an immediate meeting with the executing agency, identify bottlenecks, submit a detailed progress report, and accelerate construction work.

He remarked that the project is crucial for addressing Dehradun’s parking shortage and reducing traffic congestion in the city’s commercial core.

Dr. Chauhan instructed officials to establish an effective monitoring mechanism to ensure optimal utilization of existing and upcoming parking facilities. He said that proper monitoring of parking occupancy and operations would help reduce roadside parking, minimize traffic bottlenecks, and improve overall traffic flow.

The meeting also reviewed the operational status and utilization of Parade Ground Parking, Ram Rai Parking, and other important parking facilities across the city.

Highlighting the importance of integrating traffic management with environmental objectives, the District Magistrate directed the Superintendent of Police (Traffic) and the Municipal Corporation to prepare a comprehensive action plan under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP).

He instructed officials to focus on reducing vehicular congestion, strengthening parking infrastructure, improving public amenities, and implementing measures that contribute to better air quality while enhancing urban mobility.

The review meeting also covered the progress of key infrastructure projects, including the Indira Market Redevelopment Project, mandi shifting, Aadhat Bazaar road improvements, Parade Ground Parking, and Ram Rai Parking.

The District Magistrate directed all concerned departments to closely monitor pending works and ensure their timely completion. He reiterated that Dehradun’s traffic management system must evolve into a modern, efficient, citizen-centric model capable of meeting the city’s growing transportation demands.

The meeting was attended by Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Jitendra Kumar, Additional District Magistrate (Finance & Revenue) K.K. Mishra, Sadar Sub-Divisional Magistrate Apoorva Singh, Regional Transport Officer Sandeep Saini, District Development Officer Sunil Kumar, along with officials from MDDA, Dehradun Municipal Corporation, and other concerned departments.
