Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami Extends Harela Greetings, Urges Citizens to Plant More Trees

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami extended heartfelt greetings to the people of the state on the occasion of the traditional Harela festival and urged everyone to actively participate in tree plantation drives to strengthen environmental conservation.
In his message on the eve of Harela, the Chief Minister said that the festival is not merely a cultural celebration but also an occasion to express gratitude towards nature, promote environmental protection, and preserve Uttarakhand’s rich traditions and folk heritage. He emphasized that traditional festivals are an integral part of the state’s cultural identity and inspire future generations to remain connected with their roots.
The Chief Minister noted that Devbhoomi Uttarakhand enjoys a unique identity due to its spiritual legacy, breathtaking natural beauty, and rich biodiversity. Therefore, every citizen has a shared responsibility to protect forests, rivers, water sources, and fragile Himalayan ecosystems. He stressed the need for continuous efforts to revive and conserve natural water bodies, streams, and rivers through collective public participation.
He highlighted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” (Plant a Tree in Mother’s Name) campaign has transformed tree plantation into a nationwide public movement, creating greater awareness about environmental conservation and strengthening people’s emotional connection with nature.
The Chief Minister informed that the Forest and Horticulture Departments have prepared a comprehensive action plan for large-scale plantation drives across urban and rural areas during Harela. Various social organizations, educational institutions, voluntary groups, and local communities have also been encouraged to actively participate in the campaign.
He said that tree plantation has evolved beyond an environmental activity and has become a social responsibility. If every citizen plants and nurtures at least one tree, it will significantly contribute to creating a greener, cleaner, and healthier future for coming generations.
Appealing to all citizens, social organizations, youth, women, and students, the Chief Minister urged everyone to make Harela a people’s movement for environmental conservation by planting more trees and ensuring their proper care and protection.
