Dehradun to Launch Mega Pothole-Free Road Campaign from September 15
District administration sets October 30 deadline to make all roads pothole-free; 40 teams deployed for streetlight repairs
Dehradun, September 1, 2026: In compliance with the Chief Minister’s directions, the Dehradun district administration has intensified efforts to improve road conditions and street lighting across the city and district. District Magistrate Dr. Ashish Chauhan has assigned clear responsibilities and deadlines to the concerned departments and executing agencies for repairing damaged roads and restoring faulty streetlights.
The administration will launch a mega pothole-free road campaign from September 15, 2026, immediately after the monsoon period. The target is to make all roads across the district pothole-free and easier to navigate by October 30, 2026.
Pothole-Free Campaign to Begin on September 15
Construction and executing agencies have completed surveys of roads falling under their respective jurisdictions. Damaged stretches and pothole-prone locations have been identified, while the tendering process for the required repair works is underway.
The District Magistrate has directed all executing agencies to complete road repair works within the stipulated deadline. During the campaign, priority will be given to severely damaged and high-traffic roads to ensure safer and smoother movement for commuters.
40 Teams Deployed for Streetlight Repairs
Alongside road repairs, the administration is also focusing on improving street lighting in Dehradun. The Municipal Corporation has 1,14,171 streetlights across its jurisdiction, of which 169 faulty streetlights have been reported.
To ensure quick resolution of complaints, the Municipal Corporation has deployed 40 dedicated teams across different areas. The teams are visiting the affected locations, repairing faulty lights and replacing them wherever necessary.
On Tuesday, the teams carried out repair work in several locations, including Mussoorie Diversion, Badowala, Survey of India Campus, Kamla Palace-Shimla Bypass stretch, Haridwar Bypass, Sahastradhara Crossing-IT Park Road, ISBT-Niranjanpur, Darshanlal Chowk, Subhash Road-Race Course and Fawara Chowk-Nehru Colony, among other areas.
Task Forces Conduct Night Inspections
To assess ground-level conditions and ensure quick resolution of civic issues, District Magistrate Dr. Ashish Chauhan has constituted separate task forces comprising 20 district-level officers each.
These task forces are monitoring streetlights, garbage points, motor roads, food safety arrangements and prevention of electricity theft. Officers are conducting field inspections during both daytime and night hours to assess the actual condition of civic facilities.
Whenever a deficiency is identified, the Google location and photographs of the affected site are immediately shared with the concerned department, enabling faster identification and resolution of the problem.
Daily Reports to Drive Priority-Based Action
The administration is taking action on identified issues on a priority basis based on the daily reports submitted by the task forces. The objective is not merely to identify deficiencies but also to ensure their timely resolution through the concerned departments.
Through this dual monitoring strategy—road and infrastructure improvement during the day and field inspections at night—the district administration is accelerating efforts to improve traffic movement, road safety and street lighting in Dehradun.
The concerned departments have been directed to strictly adhere to the prescribed deadlines and ensure regular monitoring of all ongoing works.
