DEHRADUN: A special drive will be conducted in Dehradun district to enrol eligible Indian citizens whose names were left out of the electoral rolls following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise. The initiative will focus on identifying eligible citizens who have not yet been included in the voter list and facilitating their enrolment in accordance with the prescribed rules.

A meeting to review preparations for the campaign was held on Wednesday at the Rishiparna Auditorium in the Collectorate under the chairmanship of District Magistrate and District Election Officer Dr Ashish Chauhan. Representatives of political parties attended the meeting to discuss the enrolment process, implementation schedule and monitoring arrangements.

Booth-Level Drive from October 8 to 10

Dr Chauhan directed officials to conduct a three-day special drive at the booth level from October 8 to 10, 2026, to reach eligible citizens who were left out of the electoral rolls.

Subsequently, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will conduct door-to-door verification from October 12 to 20. During this exercise, eligible citizens will be identified and necessary action will be taken to include their names in the electoral rolls in accordance with the prescribed procedure.

Transparency and Impartiality to Be Ensured

The District Election Officer instructed all Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) to maintain complete transparency and impartiality throughout the campaign. He directed them to organise table-top meetings with representatives of political parties in their respective assembly constituencies to ensure coordinated and effective implementation.

BLOs will also be clearly briefed on the campaign procedure, their responsibilities and the prescribed schedule. The District Magistrate emphasised that all applications, including Form 6, must be scrutinised in accordance with the applicable rules and processed within the stipulated timeframe.

Regular Monitoring of the Entire Process

Dr Chauhan said the objective of the campaign is not only to enrol eligible citizens but also to make the electoral rolls more accurate and up to date. He directed officials to establish a robust monitoring mechanism covering every stage, from booth-level activities to door-to-door verification.

The administration has been instructed to ensure effective area-wise and booth-wise supervision so that no eligible citizen is deprived of the opportunity to get their name included in the voter list.

All concerned officials and staff members have also been directed to complete the assigned work within the prescribed deadlines and review daily progress to ensure timely implementation.
