UTTARAKHAND NEWS: Dhami Cabinet approves land law Amendment Bill

DEHRADUN: The state cabinet has given its approval to the much-awaited land law on Wednesday. After the decision the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami wrote on X that the BJP government is protector of culture and original fabric of the State.

He claimed that fully respecting the long-standing demand of the people of the state and their sentiments, the cabinet has approved the strict land law. This historic step will protect the resources, cultural heritage and rights of the citizens of the state, as well as play an important role in maintaining the original identity of the state. 

‘Our government is fully committed to the interests of the people and we will never let their trust break. This decision makes it clear that we will make every effort to protect our state and culture. Certainly, this law will also prove helpful in maintaining the original form of the state’, he further added.

Following the approval of the new land law draft by the Dhami cabinet, it is now likely to be placed in the House during the ongoing budget session.

It is further learnt that all the provisions incorporated by the state government earlier in 2018 have been abolished in the new land law. The new law prohibits the people of other States from purchasing land for agricultural and horticulture purposes in 11 mountainous districts (barring Udham Singh Nagar and Haridwar) of Uttarakhand.

The new law also provides that Consolidation and settlement will be done to ensure proper use of land in hilly areas and to prevent encroachment. The District Magistrate will not be able give the permission of land purchase personally. A portal will be created for land purchase in the state.
