Dehradun: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to transforming Uttarakhand into a major hub for drone and defense manufacturing. Speaking at the “Surya Drone Tech 2025” exhibition held at Jaswant Ground, here today in the Dehradun Cantonment, the CM emphasized the state’s focus on technological innovation and youth empowerment.
The two-day exhibition (April 29–30), organized by the Central Command of the Indian Army in collaboration with the Society of Indian Defense Manufacturers (SIDM), showcased cutting-edge drone technologies designed to meet diverse military needs. The event aligns with the national “Atmanirbhar Bharat” (Self-Reliant India) initiative.
CM Dhami, after observing the drone demonstrations, highlighted the strategic importance of drone technology in a geographically sensitive state like Uttarakhand. He noted its vital role in disaster relief and expressed the government’s vision of nurturing a generation of drone experts capable of developing solutions for both defense and civilian applications.
“Our new industrial policies give special emphasis to defense production and technological innovation,” Dhami said. “Surya Drone Tech 2025 is a confluence of science, technology, and talent. Events like these not only showcase India’s modern technological prowess but also inspire our youth to lead in innovation.”
He praised India’s advancements in drone technology as a testament to the country’s growing self-reliance and leadership in tech innovation. “Drones are revolutionizing sectors from defense and disaster management to agriculture and education,” he added.
Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country has seen a significant push towards encouraging innovation in the defense and drone sectors, Dhami noted, adding that Uttarakhand is fully aligned with this national vision.
The event saw participation from members of the Indian Army’s Central Command, SIDM, drone experts, startups, MSMEs, NCC cadets, and school students.
