Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami launches Swachh Utsav-2025
Dehradun: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated the Swachh Utsav-2025 program on Wednesday, marking it as a state-wide movement to promote cleanliness and environmental protection. On the occasion, he extended warm birthday wishes to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, praying for his long and healthy life, and also conveyed greetings to the people of Uttarakhand on Lord Vishwakarma Jayanti.
As part of the program, the Chief Minister symbolically swept the premises to spread the message of cleanliness under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. He appealed to citizens to actively participate in the statewide cleanliness drive and announced that various programs dedicated to service and cleanliness will be organized across Uttarakhand from September 17 to October 2. Paying floral tribute to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation, he also administered the cleanliness pledge and planted a sapling to reinforce the state’s commitment to a greener future. On the occasion, the Swachh Bharat Rath was flagged off and environmental friends were honored for their contribution.
Highlighting the achievements of the campaign, CM Dhami said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, the cleanliness movement has gained new dimensions and become a people’s revolution. He described Swachh Utsav-2025 as not just a program, but a resolution, a mass movement, and a promise of a healthier, cleaner tomorrow for the coming generations. “It is our collective responsibility to turn the dream of Clean India, Healthy India into reality,” he remarked.
The Chief Minister also underlined the state’s progress in the cleanliness rankings. He informed that the Dehradun Municipal Corporation secured 19th place in the country in the Clean Air Survey under the National Air Program, and also improved its position to 62nd place in the Swachh Survekshan rankings this year. He added that over six lakh households across Uttarakhand have benefitted from toilet construction under the campaign, reflecting significant progress in sanitation coverage.
Speaking about ongoing initiatives, he noted that the Dehradun Municipal Corporation has set up a sanitation control room to promptly address public grievances related to cleanliness. Improved garbage collection systems, CCTV-based monitoring, and regular cleaning drives are giving the city a new direction, he said.
Emphasizing that cleanliness is not merely a government program but an intrinsic part of Indian culture and lifestyle, the Chief Minister urged citizens to take personal responsibility for keeping their homes, neighborhoods, villages, and towns clean. He also highlighted the state’s Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign, stressing that tree plantation is vital for improving the quality of life and ensuring a clean environment for future generations.
The event witnessed the participation of Cabinet Ministers Satpal Maharaj, Ganesh Joshi, Subodh Uniyal, MP Mala Rajya Laxmi Shah, Dehradun Mayor Saurabh Thapliyal, MLAs Savita Kapoor and Suresh Gadiya, Secretary Nitesh Jha, Municipal Commissioner Namami Bansal, and several other public representatives and officials.
