Orange Alert in 5 Uttarakhand Districts; Lightning, Hailstorm Warning Issued

Dehradun, April 4, 2026:
The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Dehradun, has issued an Orange Alert for five districts of Uttarakhand—Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, and Pithoragarh—due to the likelihood of severe weather conditions.

According to the forecast, these areas may experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, hailstorms, and gusty winds ranging between 40–50 km/h, with speeds potentially reaching up to 60 km/h in some locations. Meanwhile, a Yellow Alert has been issued for the remaining districts of the state.

Administration on High Alert

Taking the warning seriously, the State Emergency Operations Center, Dehradun, has issued directives to the concerned district administrations to remain vigilant and fully prepared to handle any emergency situation.

Key Instructions Issued

  • Trekking activities in mountainous areas should be restricted or regulated during adverse weather conditions.
  • Movement in sensitive areas should be controlled with heightened vigilance.
  • Ensure immediate response and quick information exchange in case of any disaster or accident.
  • All officials under the Incident Response System (IRS) must remain on high alert.
  • Ensure prompt restoration of blocked roads.
  • Revenue officials, village development officers, and पंचायत-level staff must maintain active field presence.
  • Police stations and outposts should remain equipped with disaster management tools and wireless communication systems.

Additional Precautions

  • Officials and staff must keep their mobile phones switched on at all times.
  • Essential items such as raincoats, torches, and helmets should be readily available.
  • Ensure food and medical arrangements for people who may get stranded.
  • Schools must take necessary steps to ensure student safety.
  • Tourist movement in high Himalayan regions should be regulated.
  • Maintain proper drainage systems in urban and semi-urban areas by clearing blockages in drains and culverts.

Public Advisory

Secretary, Disaster Management and Rehabilitation, Vinod Kumar Suman, has urged citizens to take weather warnings seriously, stay in safe locations, and strictly follow administrative guidelines.
