Ahead of Char Dham Yatra 2026, Uttarakhand government directs oil companies to clear LPG backlog and ensure uninterrupted domestic and commercial gas supply.
Dehradun: In view of the upcoming Char Dham Yatra and peak tourism season, the state administration has taken a firm stance on ensuring uninterrupted LPG supply across Uttarakhand. Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan held a high-level meeting with District Magistrates and representatives of oil companies to review the availability of domestic and commercial LPG.
During the meeting, the Chief Secretary issued clear instructions to ensure seamless supply of commercial LPG cylinders throughout the Char Dham Yatra, so that hotels, dhabas, restaurants, and tourism-related establishments do not face any inconvenience. He also directed oil companies to immediately clear any backlog in domestic LPG supply on priority and further streamline the distribution system.
He emphasized that LPG supply should be increased to maintain adequate availability in the market, preventing unnecessary pressure and panic among consumers. He also instructed that any administrative or logistical challenges faced by oil companies should be resolved promptly.
The Chief Secretary directed District Magistrates to closely monitor LPG supply in their respective districts, intensify enforcement actions, and ensure that no black marketing or artificial shortage arises. Measures were also emphasized to curb panic booking among consumers.
Secretary, Food and Civil Supplies, Anand Swaroop, informed that feedback from districts indicates an improvement in domestic LPG supply and a decline in panic booking trends.
Demand for 100% Quota Retention and Additional 5% Allocation
The Chief Secretary noted that Uttarakhand’s economy largely depends on the Char Dham Yatra and tourism activities. Every year, from April to November, the state witnesses a significant influx of pilgrims and tourists, leading to a sharp rise in LPG demand.
He further highlighted that during the monsoon season, potential disaster situations such as heavy rainfall increase the importance of LPG as a critical fuel for relief and rescue operations. Considering these factors, a proposal is being sent to the Government of India requesting that the existing 100% allocation of commercial LPG be maintained from April to November, along with an additional 5% quota to meet emergency requirements.
The state has estimated a requirement of approximately 967,949 commercial LPG cylinders during the यात्रा period, along with an additional 48,397 cylinders for contingency and disaster management needs.
Strict Action Against Misuse and Black Marketing; Enforcement Drive Intensified
To ensure transparent and smooth LPG distribution, a large-scale enforcement drive has been underway across the state since March 9, 2026.
So far, 5,934 inspections have been conducted. कार्रवाई against irregularities has led to the seizure of 864 domestic and 168 commercial LPG cylinders. Additionally, 362 raids have been carried out, 17 FIRs registered, and 7 arrests made.
Authorities have also confiscated equipment used for illegal refilling and misuse of LPG, including refilling kits, gas stoves, and a pickup vehicle. A total penalty of ₹105,900 has been imposed so far.
