National Lok Adalat to be Held in Dehradun on May 9; Quick Justice Through Amicable Settlement
From pre-litigation to civil disputes—cases to be resolved in a single day
Dehradun, April 24, 2026:
A National Lok Adalat will be आयोजित on May 9, 2026, across Dehradun district under the aegis of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Dehradun. The Lok Adalat will be held at the district headquarters as well as in all outlying court complexes, including Rishikesh, Vikasnagar, Doiwala, Chakrata, and Mussoorie.
The primary objective of the Lok Adalat is to ensure speedy, affordable, and amicable disposal of pending as well as pre-litigation cases through mutual settlement, thereby providing relief to the general public.
Secretary of DLSA and Civil Judge (Senior Division), Seema Dungarkoti, informed that a wide range of cases will be taken up for disposal during the Lok Adalat. These include:
- Civil cases
- Matrimonial and family disputes
- Cheque bounce cases (under Section 138 of the NI Act)
- Bank recovery and motor accident claims
- Labour disputes
- Consumer forum cases
- Pre-litigation matters
In addition, compoundable challans under the Motor Vehicles Act (MV Act) pending before courts will also be settled. Such cases can be resolved by depositing the prescribed fee, without incurring additional legal expenses.
Types of Cases Covered
The Lok Adalat will handle various compoundable traffic violations, including:
overspeeding, dangerous driving, driving without a valid license/RC/insurance/permit, not wearing a seat belt or helmet, overloading passengers, unnecessary use of horn, failure to give way to emergency vehicles, and other similar violations.
However, serious offences such as drunk driving and driving by minors will not be included in the Lok Adalat.
Key Features of Lok Adalat
- No court fee is charged for cases settled in Lok Adalat
- Any previously paid court fee is refunded as per rules
- Decisions are final and binding
- No appeal can be filed against the award

The District Legal Services Authority has urged citizens whose cases are pending in courts across Dehradun, Rishikesh, Vikasnagar, Doiwala, Chakrata, and Mussoorie to apply for settlement through mutual consent before May 9, 2026, and take advantage of this opportunity.
