Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami reviews honey production at CM residence. 520 kg honey produced in 45 days.
DEHRADUN: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Saturday reviewed the honey extraction process at the Chief Minister’s residence premises. It was reported that around 520 kilograms of honey were produced within just 45 days this year, highlighting the strong potential of beekeeping in the state.
The Chief Minister stated that Uttarakhand holds immense opportunities for honey production, especially in its mountainous and forest regions. He directed officials to formulate an effective policy for installing bee boxes in forest areas, which would help generate employment and livelihood opportunities for local communities.
He further emphasized that beekeeping will be given priority under the Chief Minister’s Self-Employment Scheme. Farmers and entrepreneurs associated with this sector will be provided with special subsidies and necessary support to scale up their activities.
Highlighting the importance of beekeeping in strengthening the rural economy, the Chief Minister said that it is a powerful means of self-employment. Along with increasing local incomes, it also contributes significantly to environmental conservation.
During the visit, he instructed Horticulture In-charge Deepak Purohit to ensure the plantation of suitable flowering and pollen-rich plants within the residence premises to support year-round honey production. He also called for initiating the development of a “Three-B” (Bird-friendly, Bee-friendly, Butterfly-friendly) garden.
The Chief Minister stressed organizing plantation drives based on the “Three-B” concept on occasions like World Environment Day and Harela festival. He noted that such initiatives would not only aid environmental protection but also sustainably boost beekeeping and honey production, thereby contributing to the state’s economic growth.
